Follow these tips for successful dog training.

August 22, 2013 By

Training your dog is showing that you are a responsible dog owner. Training your dog to be a well mannered canine citizen will not only improve your relationship with them, it will keep them safe and happy. These tips will help you get started or give you a better idea of what training a dog is like.

It takes a while for a dog to get comfortable in a crate. Don’t take it too fast; introduce the dog at his own pace. Once your puppy feels comfortable in the open crate, close the door and offer the dog a treat. Leave them in for short periods of time, as little as 10 seconds. Work up from there. If the dog becomes upset, then you need to take a step back and slow down the training.

Look out for your dog’s nutrition the same way you would look after your own. Feeding your dog bad food is very bad for several different reasons. Not only does it affect the dog’s health, but it can have an impact on its behavior. A proper diet can affect how well they react to training.

Among the first commands that you should teach your puppy is the command “leave it,” which tells the puppy to drop whatever he has in his mouth and back away from it. This command teaches them to cease chewing on furniture or items around the house and it keeps them safe from filthy or hazardous items outside.

When a dog jumps up on you, grab its paws with your hand and lightly squeeze to let them know that it is unacceptable behavior. While this will not seriously hurt the animal, it is certainly unpleasant and therefore makes a powerful statement. After a while, they’ll stop jumping due to this uncomfortable feeling.

Use short training sessions. Your dog’s memory and attention span is short, keep the training this way. If you want to engage in additional training, allow the dog to have a break in order to get some exercise.

During puppy toilet training, it’s important to avoid accidents. Learn the signs that your dog needs to use the restroom. He could be snuffing, pacing or even whining. Don’t put it off when your dog is doing these things. Get outside right away to the dog’s favorite spot. Whenever your dog uses the restroom outside, reward him or her with lots of praise. In time, he will ask you to take him out.

Giving praise to your dog for a job well done is important. Acting super excited can help your dog to understand that you are happy with their behavior. Having these same reactions to bad behavior will teach your dog that whatever they are doing is okay.

With any luck, this advice will increase the pleasure your dog brings to you and your loved ones. By training your dog properly, you will prevent stress and frustration in both your lives. Regardless of if you decide to train your dog on your own or use a professional, it is key that you do train your dog to ensure a happy union with your dog.

Follow these tips for successful dog training.

Never allow your dog to walk you, and be sure the dog always behaves when out and about. This article contains the critical knowledge you need for training your dog.

Put yourself in your dog’s proverbial shoes, or paws, rather. It’s easy to get mad if your dog is not doing the basic things you teach it. Rather than abandoning the training, consider what the dog might be thinking. Consider how it would be to see the world in their eyes. Doing this will give you a completely different perspective, which should help you in training them.

Your dog’s diet plays a huge role in their training and establishing a definitive feeding routine is important. Train your dog to understand that you are going to remove their food bowl upon fifteen minutes of feeding them. This will establish a feeding schedule for your dog. After some time training the dog this way, it will begin to finish the food before it is time to pick up the bowl.

Don’t allow your dog to jump on you when you get home. You should make sure they are calm when you come into the house or in the room that they are in. If you do not recognize them right away, they will be more calm.

During the dog training process, take care not to inadvertently reinforce bad behavior. You should avoid using strips of food or attention to train when you are trying to discourage behaviors. For example, don’t rub your dog’s head when they jump up at you and when you come in the door if you don’t want them to jump.

Use an even tone when commanding your dogs. The dog will know you’re telling them what to do that way. Your dog needs to understand that there is a difference between the tone you use to discipline your dog from the tone you use to give an order.

You should keep doggy treats handy for rewarding your dog. You want them to know they did the right thing. This is the proper way to make sure that your dog learns the difference between right and wrong.

Don’t overdo your training sessions, keep them brief and interesting for best results. Dogs can quickly lose focus when you prolong activities. Only spend 10 minutes during the first couple of sessions.

When you get your puppy, be sure to create a bond to him by helping him learn his name. Use their name often, and then teach them how to come to you when called. Your dog should learn these items before any others as they’re the most important. Be sure to spend lots of quality time with your puppy, so that he will learn to know and trust you. If the puppy trusts you, he will be easier to train later.

If you plan on housebreaking your pet, you must work hard to avoid any preventable mistakes. Sometimes, your dog will have triggers for when its that time. It’s common for them to snuffle, wise and pace when they have to go. Don’t delay; bring them outside. Get his leash and take him out to his designated toilet spot! Give him praise for his behavior. At some point, he will start asking to go out.

When you’re not educated on dog training, you might feel overwhelmed with your dog. Thankfully, the advice provided in the above article contains all you need to effectively train your dog so that he or she can be a great addition to your family.

Useful tips for successfully training your dog

August 21, 2013 By

Dogs process information differently than do humans; do not make the mistake of presuming they do. The owner will be greatly disappointed with how training goes. On the other hand, there are ways you can successfully train your dog here in this article.

Generous rewards are a key part of training. You should immediately reward your dog when they follow your command. Unless you administer praise and treats as soon as the dog exhibits the desired behavior, he will not be able to connect the behavior to the treat.

You have to be consistent with the crate training of your new puppy. Whenever you let your puppy out of the crate, he must be given the immediate chance to go potty. With time, your puppy will wait for the right tine to relieve himself.

When house training your dog, keep in mind that whatever you feed him must come out. To have your dog on a consistent bathroom schedule, have him or her eating quality food about two or three times every day, at the exact same time. You can then schedule your walks at the right times to prevent unwanted accidents.

Putting your dog on a regular schedule of feeding and walks will help to regulate his system, so he will be easier to house train. This allows you to know when your dog has to go and take him outside to do his business before your carpet gets ruined. Using this schedule can teach your dog how to hold their piddle until the upcoming potty break.

If your dog wants to jump you should squeeze their paws when they do so, they will know that they shouldn’t do that. This does not hurt the dog if you do it lightly, but it is an uncomfortable feeling for them. They should learn to stop jumping because they don’t like the reaction they get.

When training your pet, see to it that you get its attention all the time. Your commands should always begin with your dog’s name. Use his name to get his attention then follow up with a command. Dogs will hear there name and pay attention.

In order to have a great dog, you need to learn control and firmness. You should not be yelling at your dog all the time. Be strict only when your dog disobeys or adopts an attitude you do not approve of. This will help develop a strong bond during your training session.

To keep your training sessions positive and effective, you should also keep them short. About 15 minutes is enough time to train because spending longer than that can irritate your dog and hinder their progress. Following training, be sure to praise your dog liberally and have a nice play session.

Whenever you make use of your dog’s name within the context of a reprimand or warning, make a point to then use it positively as well. Your dog will obey a call to its name and come when you call only if the name is associated with good things.

After learning some helpful hints on how to get through to your dog and train it to behave to your expectations you simply need to follow what you have learned. After changing your dogs behavior to fit with the tips suggested you can properly train your dog.

Train your dog to behave in all circumstances

August 20, 2013 By

Everyone is susceptible to having their heart stolen by a puppy. If you already own one or are contemplating getting one, good for you! A well trained pet is key to a successful relationship. Your pet will understand how it is expected to behave, and you will feel confident in that fact, so that you can trust your pet when you are home with it or out at work. Read the tips and tricks below for some great dog-training advice.

When you correct your dog verbally, ensure your corrections are direct and short. Don’t rant on and on about how bad your dog is. Say NO and redirect your dog to the desired behavior. In addition, use an appropriate voice volume when you give commands, so that it grabs the dog’s attention and lets it know that you are serious.

You should develop a feeding routine with your dog. Develop a feeding schedule, and be consistent with the routines so you can teach your dog what to expect and how to behave. Shortly, the dog will start finishing their food well before you plan to take the dish away.

Consistency is critical for crate training to succeed. Whenever you let your puppy out of the crate, he must be given the immediate chance to go potty. This will teach your dog that he can wait until he gets out of the crate to relieve himself.

Shock Collars

Do not use shock collars and similar training devices. In addition to being very expensive, they usually do not work as well as the more traditional training techniques. Plus, shock collars can discourage your dog from behaving properly. It is common for these tactics to create adverse behavior.

When training your dog, one of the first commands they should be aware of is the “drop” command, which lets them know they should drop any items they have in their mouth. This simple command is beneficial in making him stop on chewing furniture inside the house.

If your canine jumps on top of you, gently grab their paws and squeeze them; this will tell them that they cannot jump. While this will not seriously hurt the animal, it is certainly unpleasant and therefore makes a powerful statement. If you do this, they will not jump up on your or visitors any longer because they will think about you squeezing their paws.

When training your dog make sure you always get his attention in the same manner. Start your commands by calling out his name. His name will catch his attention and then he’ll know you’re speaking to him. Using your dog’s name lets him know you want his attention.

Call your dogs name when speaking to him to keep him focused. Make sure to use the dog’s name constantly when you first have him, so he can make the connection with his name and paying attention. Chose a name that can easily be distinguished from other words, and that has only one or two syllables.

Consistency is very important when training your dog. Have a set list of commands that everyone in the household knows. Also, make sure to be on the same page regarding rewarding good behavior and never rewarding bad behavior. If different people in your household respond to the dog in different ways, it becomes confusing for the dog and less likely they will respond in the appropriate way.

These tips should really help you gain training confidence. Choose the advice that works for you. You are probably ready to train your cute dog. Training is the way to have success. Your dog needs to be properly trained. Congratulations to your furry friend!
