Important dog training information that anyone can use

August 24, 2013 By

Dog training is one of the best investments you will make in your dog’s life. The time you take now will create a well-mannered pet who seeks to please you and live as part of the family. The piece that follows is full of information about the important role training your dog can play.

The space you share with your pet should be calm and relaxed. Play time is beneficial to your dog, however, you need to teach your dog to be calm as you enter any room. Don’t acknowledge dogs the moment that you set foot in the house.

Dogs generally focus on one thing while ignoring everything around them, unless something interrupts that intense focus. With enough training, your dog should be able to pay more attention to your orders.

Do not tether two dogs close to each other. It is just too easy for dogs in such a situation to tangle their leads together, and this can lead to serious injuries for both of them. If a large dog becomes tangled with a smaller one they could wrap up to the point the airway of the latter is closed off and the dog would die.

The rule of thumb with puppies and house training is to remember: what is eaten will pass. If you want your puppy to relieve himself with regularity, keep the diet regular too, like feeding him good food two or three times daily at consistent intervals. By scheduling your feedings, you will be able to determine when you should take your dog out. This can greatly reduce the number of accidents.

Do not use shock collars and similar training devices. Most of the time these don’t function as they should and can cost quite a bit of money. If you start using these methods, your dog will not be responsive to anything else. These methods of training generally fail.

If you approach a dog you do not know, do so slowly. Let the dog sniff the back or top of your extended hand. Dogs need to familiarize themselves with the smell before they can trust you. Dogs that know your smell are less likely to fear you and more likely to obey commands.

When training your pet, you must be patient. This will keep you and your pupy from becoming frustrated or angry. Your dog wants to make you happy, but sometimes it just does not understand you.

The daily training sessions with your dog should be fun. Taking time to play creates a strong bond between the two of you, and your dog will be more likely to respond well to training. While training can be considered fun, be prepared to spend some time just playing as well.

Training Sessions

Exercise your dog for at least an hour each day in addition to regular outside potty breaks and training sessions. Making sure your dog has enough exercise makes training sessions more effective and encourages regular good behavior from your dog. If your pet can exercise regularly and be active, he will be far more happy and responsive.

Dog training is a great investment. Dogs with behavioral issues can cause expensive damage to your residence, can create tension among loved ones, and can drive people away from your home. The information provided will help you to learn how to train your dog so that he becomes a beloved, well-behaved member of your family.
