Train your dog by following these easy steps

August 23, 2013 By

Your dog can be taught and trained how to act properly and drop very annoying habits. What is more, all of the positive traits associated with dogs like obedience, faithfulness, and respect, can be included with the correct training regimen. The proper training can turn any dog into an ideal companion.

Are you house training your dog? If so, then understand that the food and water they consume must come out at some point. Feed your dog a high-quality diet three times a day. Doing so allows you to gain a clearer picture of when your puppy might need to relieve himself outdoors.

To keep your dog compliant with his training, be sure to continue the process well after he has performed the way that you have hoped. Often, owners get the feeling that they do not need to continue working with the dog once it is trained. However, pets are creatures of habit. You must remain strict with your dog.

Choose one phrase to use every time you want your dog to do his business. Whenever you bring him outside, repeat your chosen phrase in a firm but gentle tone to encourage him to undertake the action and associate the act with the place.

As you progress with your dog’s training, you should begin to give it more and more freedom. The key to a satisfying life for your dog is a balance of freedom and obedience. Just be careful not to overdo it on the freedom initially as it can set your dog training efforts back.

Do not spend too much time in any one training session with your dog. You will bore your dog if your spend a lot of time on just one thing. Limit the amount of time you train at first to less than 10 minutes.

Have fun with your dog each day when training. A sense of play brings you and your dog together. This bond makes the dog more responsive to your commands and training him easier. Training can be a good and fun time with your dog, but you should also set aside time that is just for play.

Understand that getting your dog to respond during the times that you tell him or her ‘no’ is not helpful. You need to look for positive ways to reinforce your commands when you train your dog. It takes more than a single syllable to elicit the desired response from your dog. Not only is each situation different, every breed of dog is also different. Therefore, you should adjust your training based off your dog’s breed and the specific situation at hand.

You can continue to train your dog as they age. Dogs do not cease learning after puppyhood. Reinforce the positive behaviors, reward your dog for being obedient and punish your dog for its bad behavior.

When training your dog, it helps to understand the unique hygiene and grooming requirements of his breed. Some dogs require a small amount of grooming, while others may require meticulous grooming each week. Grooming is essential to keeping your dog healthy and reduces the chances that he will developing health problems.

It should be evident from this article that training a dog does not have to be a monumental battle. It should be understood that the dog owner will also go through a sort of training. It is not up to just the trainer to transform a dog’s behavior; training must follow the pet home. Dogs are wonderfully loyal so they will enjoy the training period, if only for the fact they are trying to please you.
