Useful training tips and tricks for any dog

August 14, 2013 By

A lot of people opt out to adopt a pet without thinking through it first. You have to be totally committed if you want to own a dog. Training a dog improves their behavior and reduces the amount of trouble they get into. Use this article if your dog is in need of training.

Get your dog into a feeding routine. Feed your dog at the same time everyday and giving your dog fifteen minutes to eat will help your dog remember when it is time to eat. Shortly, the dog will start finishing their food well before you plan to take the dish away.

It is important to have a consistent training method when crate training young puppies. When your puppy gets out of its crate he will need to relieve himself. Over time, the puppy will be able to wait until the appropriate opportunity to answer the call of nature.

When tying up your dog, make sure it is not close to another chained dog. The dogs could get wrapped up and they may be injured. If one dog happens to be much larger than the other, the small dog could get tangled to the point that it could choke to death.

Repetition is what causes a dog to learn. It may take as many as fifty repetitions before your dog learns the command. Keep working patiently on the command- he’ll get it with time.

You can show your dog how to do tricks, get some treats. Initially, try to get your dog to lay on the floor. Next, hold the treat close to the floor on one side of the dog’s head, and slowly bringing it upwards and over to the dog’s other side. Ideally, your dog will use his nose to follow the treat, rolling his whole body in the process. As he rolls over say out loud, “roll over.” Repeat this until he rolls over with the command alone. Be persistent and do not give up; it might take a while but will be worth it once they learn it.

Don’t bother with shock collars. Often times, they do not work and are over priced. These devices can stifle your dog’s natural reactions and have negative effects on even good or acceptable behaviors. Generally, techniques such as these actually produce negative results.

It is important to avoid dwelling on one task for too long. By spending too long on any single thing, your dog will likely become very bored and antsy. Try to keep the initial sessions limited to about 10 minutes.

When your pet jumps on you, squeeze its paws lightly. This will make it know jumping is not something that you want it to do. You will not be hurting them if you squeeze them softly, they just do not like it. After some time, they won’t jump on anyone because they’ll associate it with being made to feel uncomfortable.

When your dog is displaying unwanted behaviors, use water to spray him. A quick spritz instantly deters your dog from the undesirable behavior. Then your dog will no longer do actions that you don’t like.

Do not punish your dog when you are training him. Try to stop your dog from performing unwanted behaviors, but if he does, redirect him by demonstrating the correct behavior. Training is about building your pet up, not breaking him down.

Even if your dog has lived with you for a long time without being trained correctly, the ideas found above in this piece can help. However, you should act as soon as you can before your dog harms others due to ignorance.

Start training your dog today with this great advice

August 14, 2013 By

Dogs have a similar mindset regardless of size. If one understands that mindset, one should be able to train any dog they get. Anyone who is not sure how dogs look at the world will get some education from this article.

If you are keeping your dog in a crate, it’s important that you utilize tips for helping them realize this is their home. Leave food near or inside the crate and leave the door open. This way that start to like their crate even more.

You need to establish predictable feeding practices with any dog. Feed your dog twice a day and only leave his food dish out for fifteen minutes. This will help your dog learn his feeding schedule. This will ensure he eats it all quickly instead of doddling or grazing all day.

When your dog behaves well in a training session, reward him in a calm manner. When your dog obeys your command, try to keep them calm as you give them their reward. Although you are certainly excited about your dog’s accomplishment, showcasing lots of excitement on your end can cause your dog to become too excited, which causes you to lose control. Stay calm, have them be calm, and reward them for appropriate behavior.

When you are house training your puppy, remember, what goes in, must come out. To keep your pet regular, feed him quality food a couple of times daily at the same hour. That way, you’ll know when you need to take your doggie out to “go”.

Training a dog to roll over is a pretty simple task, just make sure to have a few treats handy! The dog has to lay down first. Then hold one treat near his head and near the floor. Pull the treat over the dog until your hand is on the other side. The dog ought to follow his treat with the nose, prompting him to flop his entire body over. As he is rolling over say, “roll over” and praise them immediately when they do. Put your frustration aside and he’ll be performing this trick all over the place in no time.

Don’t waste your money on expensive training products, such as shock collars. They might not work like they say they do and they cost too much. These devices can stifle your dog’s natural reactions and have negative effects on even good or acceptable behaviors. Usually if you do this your dog will respond in the wrong way.

Walking on a leash is a big step in your dog’s training. Learning to walk properly on his leash will keep you both safe when you are outdoors.

Your tone of voice is very important when you discipline your dog. Dogs can pick up how you are feeling. Sometimes a stern voice is necessary.

If you’re leash-training a puppy, the initial step needs to be putting a collar on them when you play with them. Your puppy needs to get used to wearing a collar before it can behave while you are walking it on a leash. Make sure you get a tag with your address to your dog’s collar.

Therefore, understanding how a dog’s mind works is the most important step for training it. If your dog doesn’t understand you, then how can he learn from you? One can provide your dog with better training now that one knows more about their dog.

Teach your dog new tricks with this great information!

August 14, 2013 By

While most people know that training sessions can greatly improve dogs’ behaviors, few are confident in their ability to take on the responsibility alone. It might be because you weren’t taught how. Training a dog is easy once you broaden your knowledge and understanding of canines. There are some training tips in this article that might be useful to you.

Reprimands should be delivered quickly and in a sharp tone. Do not whine and complain to your pet about their bad behavior. Simply address the issue and move on. Use a tone which is obviously one of consternation.

Dog training requires generous rewards that are given correctly. Quantity and timing are important when it comes to rewards. This is because a dog does not always understand what it is being rewarded for if they do not receive their treat at the right time.

Make sure the diet you are feeding your dog is healthy and nutritious. Too many table scraps can unbalance your dog’s diet. This can influence their behavior and harm their health. Making sure your dog’s nutritional needs are met helps give them the focus that they need to be able to learn.

Do not reinforce any negative behaviors accidentally. Essentially, you must not give your dog something positive, like attention or a treat, when it behaves in a way you want to classify as negative. For instance, do not pet the dog lovingly if it jumps on you the minute you arrive home if this is something you are attempting to cure.

Think of a word you can use as a command during training. A positive word will give your dog time to obey.

Let any dog you approach sniff your hand first so he can smell you. That is the first step in getting the dog accustomed to your smell and building trust between you. After he knows you and your scent, it is easier to command him.

Keep your sessions short to accommodate a short attention span. You will bore your dog if your spend a lot of time on just one thing. Try to limit initial training sessions to 10 minutes or less.

If your dog leaps on you, hold his paws and squeeze them a little so he will know this is not acceptable. This will not harm your dog if done gently, but it will be uncomfortable. This will help them to stop this action immediately.

Reduce as many accidents as possible when you’re toilet training your dog. Sometimes, your dog will have triggers for when its that time. It’s common for them to snuffle, wise and pace when they have to go. When this happens, take action immediately. Get his leash so you can take him to the designated potty area. Praise your dog when he does his business where he is supposed to. Do this consistently and he will always let you know when he needs to go outside.

Armed with the tips presented here, you can approach dog training with confidence. This information is a good start, but there’s always new things to learn, so be sure to keep an eye out for new information to see results sooner.

Tips to help you train your dog

August 13, 2013 By

If you have a dog that is poorly behaved, learning more about dog training can really help your dog become more obedient. The article below contains the information that you need to know.

“Leave it” is a command that should be taught and reinforced early on. This is a good way to keep your dog from chewing things and make sure they do not chew dangerous objects.

The first step in training a puppy is to make sure he knows his name. Simply start by calling his name as often as possible. Once he learns his name, you can encourage him to come to you when called. These are the commands your dog should learn before anything else. It’s important to spend a lot of time playing with your puppy, this will help your puppy get to know you and learn to trust you. This will make him easier to train later.

Make sure your dog’s training is consistent. Make sure that others are using similar commands if they are training your dog. When everyone has the same command in use, the dog will pick it up quickly.

Be very mindful of the way you speak to your dog when you train him. Your dog can usually tell how you are feeling. It is okay to be appropriately stern.

You can rest assured that when you train your puppy, they may have an accident in the house. Clean accidents up immediately to assist in your training efforts. If your carpet retains a smell, your god will be attracted to this same spot. There are a wide variety of odor control products designed to address just this situation, so head to the pet shop and ask about them.

If you desire to leash train your dog, the first thing that you must do is to use a collar on him while you’re playing with him. Getting your puppy used to the collar is essential for proper use of the leash and for ensuring that his ID tags are worn just in case he runs off.

Use a spray bottle filled with water to prevent your dog from doing things it should not do, such as scratching the furniture or biting. Your dog will quickly learn that what he is doing is not acceptable. If this method is successful, you will get these negative behaviors under control and be able to enjoy your dog.

You should always take your dog around people when they are a puppy to get them used to it. He has to understand what is okay when it comes to being around dogs and people, too. This ensures their safety and the safety of others.

Don’t give up on training your dog, no matter what. Your dog will not remember his training if you are not there to constantly remind him of what you expect. Keep in mind that training your dog is an on-going process, and just as important as providing him with food and shelter.

Your dog should know the difference between right and wrong at all times. You will need to have these rules enforced by everyone in your home. This quickly cancels out any efforts on your part!

Training your dog can be simple, effective and even fun, when you have the right advice on hand. By using the above tips, you’ll soon become an expert at training your dog.

At Pawsitive Solutions, we specialise in helping you get the best possible relationship with your dog.
