Top dog training tips for every dog

August 14, 2013 By

All dogs have the same mindset, no matter what kind or size. Understanding this mindset will allow one to train any dog that they choose. If someone doesn’t understand this mindset, he or she can gain some knowledge by reading this article.

If you plan on using a crate as part of your puppy’s training routine, introduce the apparatus and its’ functions very gradually. Once your puppy feels comfortable in the open crate, close the door and offer the dog a treat. Gradually increase the amount of time your dog spends in the crate, starting with just a few seconds. If the puppy gets too upset then you increased the time too much, too fast.

For the best results in training your pet, you must be diligent about giving rewards and encouragement. It is essential that your dog get treats at the proper times and in the correct amounts. If your timing is off, your dog will not understand what you are rewarding.

It is important that you also train your dog at mealtime with a specific routine. Train your dog to understand that you are going to remove their food bowl upon fifteen minutes of feeding them. This will establish a feeding schedule for your dog. Your dog will learn to eat in a few minutes instead of going back to the food bowl all day long.

Your dog’s diet should be healthy and balanced. Feeding your dog bad food is very bad for several different reasons. Not only is it unhealthy, it can affect the way they behave. By simply improving the diet that the dog gets, you may notice a great improvement in how receptive they will be when it comes to training.

Chew Toys

Buy chew toys so that your puppy can deal with painful teething. The right chew toys should be given to the pup immediately. If your puppy is in a lot of pain due to teething, a frozen wet washcloth is ideal for him to chew on.

While you are in the process of housebreaking your puppy, expect the occasional accident to occur. Clean up any messes that are made immediately, so it doesn’t hamper your training efforts. Smells from urine and feces can linger in a carpet and attract your pet to return to the same spot for elimination. Many products are sold that will neutralize these odors, so ask about them at your local pet store.

An effective way to train your dog is to use different voice tones for different purposes. Commands, corrections and praise should all have their own tone in order to help your dog distinguish cause and effect with his and your behavior. Be firm at all times, but vary your tone depending on what you are trying to get the dog to do.

Your dog’s grooming needs are a key part of training. Different dogs require different levels of grooming, with some needing little and some needing a lot. Proper grooming results in a cleaner and happier pet, and it cuts down on the occurrence of diseases.

Understanding the mind and process of a dog can be important to dog training. When you know and understand this principle, you will be more successful in your efforts. Once an individual understands how a dog thinks, training the dog will be much simpler.
