Calming the chaos: Learn how to have a well-trained dog

August 8, 2013 By

There are many worthwhile benefits to putting your dog through obedience training. While it can help improve your dog’s behavior, it can also assist you to be a better owner. If you are wondering what the positives are from dog training, then this article will help to fill in the blanks. You and your dog will both enjoy this time.

When you do give your dog correction verbally, make those corrections short, sharp and to the point. Do not go on and on about how bad the dog is behaving. Simply address the issue and move on. Also speak with authority so they understand you mean business.

A healthy diet is essential for your dog. If your dog isn’t getting what he needs from his diet, he will have a hard time concentrating during training. This is not just bad for the dog’s health; it may also play a role in their negative behavior. Sometimes, it is possible to improve your pet’s behavior and cooperation simply by improving the quality of his or her diet.

Always remain consistent when crate training any young pups. Shortly after you allow your puppy to exit the crate, he must be given the chance to relieve himself in the designated area. Your puppy will eventually become able to relieve itself less frequently.

Teach your dog all of the newest training methods to keep him in line. Often dog owners will stop enforcing the rules that their dog learned in their training courses. Pets are just like humans, in that they follow habitual routines. For this reason, you need to reinforce what your dog has learned in training or better still, teach him a new trick every now and then.

It is easy to train a roll with treats. First, place your dog in the “down” position. Hold a treat between your forefingers near the left side of your dog’s head, and then slowly pass the treat in front of his face and to the opposite side. He will follow the treat by rolling over. As he is rolling over, give the “roll over” command, and do this repeatedly until he can roll over with just the command and without the treat. Have patience since your dog may not get the trick quickly. However, once he does, he’ll be the center of attention at the dog park.

Come up with a phrase that you can teach your puppy during house training. Each time you let your dog out to relieve himself, use a phrase such as “go potty” so that he associates going outside with going to the bathroom.

Be mindful of how long the sessions are when you train your dog. Spending too much time just on one aspect of training will bore your dog and waste your efforts. Try limiting training sessions to 10 minutes or less.

Use short training sessions. Because dogs do not have a long attention span, short lessons will keep them from getting bored. Instead, have multiple, short sessions with breaks for playtime in between.

The best way to train a dog is by using positive reinforcement. Praise the dog with petting, upbeat words and the occasional treat when he does something right. Avoid shouting and hitting the dog. This is not a particularly effective form of training. Be firm, positive and consistent, and you will get great results.

If you use a leash to train your pet, you must ensure that it remains loose rather than taut. Dogs generally want to explore uncharted areas anytime they get the chance. Their eagerness will cause the leash to be strained. To discourage this behavior, encourage your dog to walk beside you with a leash that has some slack.

There are many benefits to dog training. Use what you have read here, and you will have a good time training your dog. You will both have fun and learn to work as a team.

Teach your dog to mind with these training tips

August 8, 2013 By

A well-trained dog can keep the peace in your home, for canine and humans alike. Give these suggestions a try. You may find life with your dog becomes less stressful this way.

Consistency is of the utmost importance when it comes to crate training. The first thing to keep in mind is that you must let him use the bathroom as soon as he’s let out. Over time, the puppy will learn to wait until he is in this location.

Every command should be giving with the same tone and volume. They will know this tone of your voice and associate it with being in trouble. The dog will also know the difference when you give them discipline as opposed to a command.

You need to teach your dog right away that they should drop or back away from something when you say “leave it.” This command is a great way to avoid damaging furniture or eating dangerous things.

When training your pet, see to it that you get its attention all the time. Say your dog’s name, followed by the command. You can get their attention by doing this and then use the command. Your dog will notice their name and they will see that you want their attention.

Use positive reinforcements when training your dog. Reward your pet using petting, small treats and positive vocal cues. Do not shout or strike the dog. Not only are those things ineffective, but they are also cruel. Instead, show your dog what you expect and reward his obedience.

If your pet is a problematic barker, try this training tip. Choose a simple word or directive you can use to quiet him down and discourage barking. When he barks, show him his favorite treat, and repeat the command. “Quiet” works well. Then, you can give your pet the treat. Eventually they will stop barking altogether as a result of the positive association.

Never, ever reward your dog for bad behavior so that you can quickly stop it. This teaches the dog that he is in control. An example would be giving the dog a treat ever time it starts to bark.

The cause of your dog’s destructive chewing habits might just be separation anxiety. Keeping your pup in a crate or other doggy-proofed space and providing appropriate chew toys will keep him occupied until you arrive home.

Older Dog

Keep in mind that older dogs have limitations. You will be unable to train an older dog perfectly; embrace their personality and quirks! If you decide to take on an older dog, be aware that they are used to routines and will have certain habits. Though you might be able to teach them a few new things, it may make more sense to pick just a few areas to improve and just deal with the rest.

More often than not, dogs bite out of fear more than anything else. This can happen if the dog feels backed into a corner or otherwise unable to escape a bad situation. Never use force to train your dog. Your frustrated dog may bite you. He will be eager to please you and view you as the leader.

Make sure you get a bed big enough for your dog. You can find an extra large bed for large dogs at any pet store. An interesting alternative could be a crib mattress. This may be beneficial as you are able to replace covers simply by adding new crib sheets. Even better — mattresses made for cribs are also waterproof.

No matter how old your dog is, or how troublesome he has been until now, some of the above advice will make a difference. Just use patience in how you apply the advice. A successful obedience training program will yield a much happier life with your pet.

Dog training ideas that will work for everyone

August 8, 2013 By

You’d like to keep your pet dog indoors, however you can’t deal with all of your belongings being ruined. You have experienced chewed chair legs and accidents on the rug, and it is now time to correctly train the dog. This article is filled with tips you will be able to use to train your puppy efficiently.

Make sure that you use a gradual process when training your dog. Start out with a small training session and up the time every day. You can figure out when your dog isn’t paying attention during training.

Try to view things from your dog’s perspective. When your dog is slow to learn, you may become frustrated. Don’t give up. Instead, think about what it must be like to be your dog. Your dog might not be making the connection between the order and the behavior you expect from them because you have not repeated the exercise enough times.

Training Session

When your dog behaves well in a training session, reward him in a calm manner. Giving a reward for an appropriate behavior is correct, but do it quickly and move on. While you may be overjoyed with headway you are making, showing excitement causes the dog to become excited and makes you lose control. Try to stay as calm as possible during your dog training session.

Make sure your dog is eating a healthy diet. There are many reasons why bad diets are bad news for your pet. Without proper nutrition, your dog’s general health will suffer and there may also be direct effects on behavior. Providing a dog with fresh water and a high protein diet can have an astounding affect on their health and attitude.

Keep your dog up to date with dog training, in order to keep him or her compliant with an established set of rules. Often, owners get the feeling that they do not need to continue working with the dog once it is trained. But pets and humans actually share the same types of habit learning systems; if they don’t practice they will forget! Therefore it is very important to maintain a good set of rules for your dog.

Use an even tone when commanding your dogs. They will know this tone of your voice and associate it with being in trouble. It is important that your dog be able to distinguish between a command and a reprimand.

“Leave it” is a command that should be taught and reinforced early on. You can protect their safety and stop them from destroying valuables by teaching them to obey this simple command.

Dog Training

Avoid saying ‘no’ during dog training. Positive reinforcement is the best method for dog training. When you say ‘no’, your dog isn’t understanding how it should respond to you. All dogs are different and will respond to different training.

Dog training involves a firm hand. Try not to yell though, as negative reinforcement does not work. This will help develop a strong bond during your training session.

Identify what exactly it is that your dog is always barking at to help curb the behavior. Whether your dog barks in response to other dogs, people, certain sounds or something else, it is important to habituate him to this circumstance. Your dog will know the difference and will understand that there’s no reason to bark when presented these situations.

In conclusion, you may want your dog to stay inside even though that is a difficult thing to do. Belongings are get destroyed, and you’re becoming impatient. What you’ve read here should put an end to this stress for good.

You need this article if you have a rowdy pooch

August 8, 2013 By

When your pet is fully trained and obedient, your home environment becomes much more peaceful and enjoyable. The advice in this article is an exceptional place to start your training strategies. You may find the perfect hint that you need for that training breakthrough.

Make sure your dog stays calm as you enter a space that he is in. Play time is good to have with your pet, however, your dog should remain calm when you enter the room. Don’t acknowledge your dog until you decide. This will establish a controlled atmosphere.

When you are trying to house train your puppy, keep in mind that everything that you put in, will come out. To have your dog on a consistent bathroom schedule, have him or her eating quality food about two or three times every day, at the exact same time. By scheduling your feedings, you will be able to determine when you should take your dog out. This can greatly reduce the number of accidents.

As you begin training your dog, create a verbal cue that allows your pet to understand the exact moment that they correctly complete your command. Certain words like “yes” are great for bridging the time between obeying an order and receiving the reward.

Decide on a single phrase that you can say when house training your puppy, and stick with it every time. When you take your puppy outside, say “go potty” to them so they will eventually associate the phrase with going to the bathroom outside.

Be ready with a favorite treat when your dog successfully completes a command. You want your dog to recognize that when you give it a command and it does the task, it is doing what you want it to do. This is the best way to ensure that the dog understands the difference between right and wrong.

Ensure you get your dog’s attention using the same methods. Start commands by using his name. This will get his attention, and then you can tell him what to do. Dogs usually respond to names immediately and they know you need them to be attentive.

Your dog must learn that there is no need for it to respond to your utterance of the word ‘no.’ It’s important to discover positive methods of reinforcing your dog’s training. Simply saying “no” is not enough to help dogs understand how they should behave. Each situation should be treated individually, and tailored to each dog.

To keep your dog from barking, teach them to obey to a simple order that will make them quiet. If your dog barks, repeat the order, offer a treat when they stop barking and pet them to show you are satisfied. Then, you can treat them. As time passes your dog will understand that his incessant barking is not allowed.

It is very important to train your dog early enough to head off the development of bad behavior. it is more difficult for your dog has to unlearn bad habits than it is to teach him good habits. Giving your dog scraps from the table is just training the dog that begging gets results, so don’t do it!

The age of your dog doesn’t matter. You can use the tips provided to make a real difference. Patience in your training will serve you well. Hopefully you and your dog will be happier than ever.
