Train our dog the right way before he trains you the wrong way

September 2, 2013 By

Training your dog is essential to its happiness. A well mannered dog shows what both of you know and expect from the other. You will be less stressed knowing that he will behave himself when he is home alone or around other people. Training your dog may involve some hardship, but the end result will be a well-mannered, happy dog.

Make sure your dog stays calm as you enter a space that he is in. It is okay to have play time, but when you enter a room your dog should be calm. Don’t acknowledge your dog until you decide. This will establish a controlled atmosphere.

A healthy diet is essential for your dog. A bad diet is unhealthy for dogs for many reasons. Not only is this bad for their health, but it can influence their behavior towards you and their environment. Improving your dog’s diet can make training him easier.

Pick the proper size crate for your dog if you want to be able to effectively use the crate to train it. Puppies will grow up quite quickly. Be sure to select a crate that allows your dog to have ample room as it grows. There should be enough space to move around without feeling cramped.

Always treat a dog after completing tasks. Your dog should realize why you are happy with him. This is a good way to make your dog know the difference between a good and bad thing.

Dogs need routine, so feed your dog at the same time every day. This also helps with training. This can help you avoid accidents on the carpet by becoming aware of when the dog needs to go. This helps your puppy learn to “hold it” for a bit, until he knows it’s time to go out and will help save you money on carpet cleaning.

You should train your dog to walk properly on his leash. This will make your walks together a pleasure and not a source of frustration.

Primary Reinforcement

When training a doggy, use primary reinforcement. Primary reinforcement is a positive reinforcement training strategy that relies heavily on things your dog already enjoys. Use things such as treats or petting your dog to reinforce good behavior. This teaches your dog something that they desire.

Try to get your dog’s attention when you are training him or her. Begin commands by using his name. Once you call his name and have his attention, begin getting him to do what you would like. Dogs quickly recognize their name which allows you to get their attention.

To limit your dog’s barking, see if you can acclimate them to whatever triggers their barking. Whether your dog barks in response to other dogs, people, certain sounds or something else, it is important to habituate him to this circumstance. Your dog will understand that there is no need to bark in these situations.

Be certain to maintain consistency in training. If multiple family members are involved in a pet’s training, make sure everyone is using the same commands and a similar system of discipline and rewards. When everyone has the same command in use, the dog will pick it up quickly.

Through dog training sessions, both you and your dog will learn about building rules for your relationship. In the same way that these rules are helpful to human relationships, you and your dog will be able to enjoy the time you spend together more after there’s an understanding about how to follow the rules. Do not forget to remind your dog of what he has learned. Provide refresher courses when needed and continue to correct bad behavior. Once you finally get this core foundation of training built with the dog, the possibilities become limitless and you can expand into new and complex areas.

Helpful tips you can use while training your dog

September 2, 2013 By

Many people believe that training their dog themselves is much too difficult. This is probably because they don’t know how to properly train their dogs. In order to train a dog, you must be knowledgeable about different training techniques that exist. Keep reading to learn all you can about training tips.

Have a good reward system when training your dog. Giving you pet treats in a timely manner is very important. This is because dogs tend not to understand what it’s being rewarded for when they do not get it at the proper time.

When your dog behaves well in a training session, reward him in a calm manner. If your dog follows a training command properly, then it is acceptable to reward the behavior to a calm animal. Don’t let your own excitement get your dog excited or they will lose focus. Maintain a calm atmosphere and provide an appropriate reward.

Be sure to keep your dog active and engaged a great deal of the time. When dogs have nothing to do, they can get bored. A bored dog will try and find something interesting to do, and training is not usually interesting. When your dog is exercised and is happy, training will be easier. Go on runs or long walks together.

A dog will obsess about one thing until you divert its attention. After you repeat these cues enough, your dog will learn to focus on you, primarily, as he or she waits for signals.

Repetition is the key to success when teaching a dog a new command. It’s very common to repeat a command up to 50 times before your dog can learn it. Keep trying the same commands until your dog remembers it for good.

You can train a pooch to roll over fairly quickly if you have some treats to hand out. Begin by getting the dog to lay down. Then, put a treat close to the floor near the side of the dog’s head, and gradually raise it over its head to the opposite side. He should roll his body over while following the treat. Say “roll over” as he performs the action so that he’ll learn the command. Never become frustrated if it does not happen right away. Once he does learn how, he will be a celebrity among other dogs.

Come up with a phrase that you can teach your puppy during house training. Every time you take him outside, tell him “go potty,” (use whatever phrase you have chosen) and this will help him learn to focus and remember what he has gone outside to do.

You must be firm with your dog in order to train it effectively. Try not to yell though, as negative reinforcement does not work. This consistent interaction will lend toward a good relationship between you are your dog.

Continue training your dog throughout its life to make sure that its good behavior persists. The dog does not stop learning as it grows older. When you work with your dog consistently to produce the best behaviors, you help your dog to remain healthy and happy. Discipline will keep him in line.

You need to be very consistent when training your dog. If you have a large family ensure everyone is involved with the dog training. It will be easier for a pet to learn a single set of commands.

Hopefully with this knowledge, you will be more confident in training your dog. Be sure to use the advice from this article, plus knowledge that you gain from other sources, to ensure that you have the best plan for training your dog.

Train your pooch with some simple guidelines

September 2, 2013 By

Has your dog been misbehaving and stressing you out? This means it’s training time! Dedicating the necessary time to training is a great way to develop obedience in your dog. The piece that follows is sure to get you off to a good start with training.

When crate training your new puppy, take it in small manageable steps so the animal can become accustomed to the changes easily. As soon as they start to feel comfortable in the crate when the door is open, try closing the gate and have them eat inside. In the beginning it is important to only leave the dog in the crate for a few seconds. After a while you will be able to leave them in the crate for longer amounts of time. If they become upset, you are moving too fast.

Choose a set phrase for house training your dog. Each time you let your dog out to relieve himself, use a phrase such as “go potty” so that he associates going outside with going to the bathroom.

If you need to approach a dog that you are not familiar with, approach it slowly and allow it to sniff your hand. Doing so builds up trust with the dog. As the dog begins to trust you, he will more likely follow your commands.

As soon as you get your puppy, the first thing to teach him/her is their name; this will help build a bond between animal and human. Use their name often, and then teach them how to come to you when called. This should be the first thing you teach your puppy. Spend as much time as possible with your dog, so you can bond and he’ll learn you’re his master. Over time, the puppy will be able to learn more advanced training.

If your pet is a problematic barker, try this training tip. Choose a simple word or directive you can use to quiet him down and discourage barking. When it starts barking, show them the treat and say the command until it quits barking. Then, you can treat them. Eventually they will stop barking altogether as a result of the positive association.

House training a puppy can be frustrating, as accidents are going to occur on occasion. Always immediately clean-up any messes your dog makes. The smell from a pet’s feces or urine can stay in the carpet. The puppy may return to that spot if it isn’t cleaned quickly. There are lots of products in the market that you can use in this aspect, so be sure to check your local pet store.

If you use a leash to train your pet, you must ensure that it remains loose rather than taut. Canines are prone to being explorers when they are out and about. Their enthusiasm will lead to a large amount of strain being applied to their leash. Rather than allowing this behavior to continue, a looser leash walk should be encouraged by the person in control of the animal.

Spending the needed time to train a dog properly is sure to provide you with many happy hours of companionship. It may seem like your dog is destined to always misbehave, but by remaining dedicated, it is possible to achieve real results. Using the advice offered above, you will see results in no time.

How to be the best dog trainer you can

September 1, 2013 By

Many people are attempting to have a cleaner homes nowadays, and a big factor is is having a properly trained dog. Many people are completely unaware of how to give their dogs correct training. Advice like what you are about to read ought to help you.

Here are a few ways to make crate training more positive for your dog. A dog is naturally hesitant about a crate at first. A way to get them interested is to put their favorite toy in the crate, then shut the door. Your dog will get excited at the prospect of the treat and soon be eager to enter the crate. If they do go into the crate, offer up praise and a treat.

Reinforce calm behavior upon your arrival. Your dog should have the patience to wait for you to get settled and signal that you are ready to play with him. Don’t acknowledge dogs the moment that you set foot in the house.

Teaching a new puppy to “leave it” is very important and one of the first commands that you should work on. This command teaches them to cease chewing on furniture or items around the house and it keeps them safe from filthy or hazardous items outside.

Your training sessions should be short. Because dogs do not have a long attention span, short lessons will keep them from getting bored. If more training is desired, work in some break times so your dog can play before continuing with training.

To train your dog efficiently, you must learn how to be firm with it. Don’t just yell at your pooch. Learn how to balance compassion with strictness. This approach helps to reinforce your relationship with the animal.

While training your dog, you need to introduce it to different social situations as early as possible. He has to understand what is okay when it comes to being around dogs and people, too. You will stave off any behavior that is unsavory in the future.

When you begin training your dog, do not give him a treat or reward just to make him stop misbehaving. This makes the dog feel like he holds the control. For example, this occurs when you give a dog a treat every time it makes loud noises.

With consistency, you can train your dog to hold on longer. When you are at home, spend time with your dog and take him outside every hour. Give him a little praise if he makes waste outside. Don’t punish your dog for eliminating inside the house. In the beginning, they won’t understand what they did wrong. Your dog should be taken outside when he emerges from his crate, and within 15 minutes of eating or drinking.

It might be hard, but you must be patient around your dog. Since the dog isn’t human, he can understand what you are saying. The dog can only understand simple gestures and vocal tones but won’t understand your meaning. Stay calm and take breaks during training to ensure it stays positive.

Anxious dogs tend to chew things, including your upholstery. Dogs like to den up. Giving him a crate to lie in and a toy to chew on will make your dog feel secure and keep him occupied.

Consistency is really the key to successfully training your dog. Consistency means not only consistent word choice, but voice tone and the rewards provided for a particular behavior.

Armed with the tips above, you ought to understand how training your family dog is crucial to keeping your home clean. Try to come up with ways you can teach your whole family how to train your dog.
