The do’s and don’ts with dog training

November 12, 2013 By

Bringing a new dog or puppy into the home is a time of excitement and joy. However, this joy can quickly turn into lots of frustration. You will just think about how you got into this as you clean a mess all over again. By teaching your dog proper behavior, you can regain the happiness you first felt. The advice below will help you set out a winning strategy.

Proper and generous rewards are critical to dog training. Reward your dog with some treats right after they obey an order. The reason is that dogs may not grasp why they receive rewards if they are given at odd times.

Be patient when teaching your dog, it will take some time. It may take 25-50 tries before your dog understands a command consistently and thoroughly. Being patient while trying the same task or command will allow your dog to understand it.

When using a crate to train your dog, you’ll want to make sure that you select the right size. Don’t forget, your puppy will grow. Pick a crate that will be of suitable size for the adult when the puppy matures. Your dog should be able to easily turn around and sleep without being overly crowded.

Have frequent or as necessary mini-training sessions to reinforce and keep the rules fresh in your dog’s mind. Do not assume that your dog will remember his training all his life. However, pets are ruled by habits, structure and routine in much that same way that humans are. For this reason, you need to reinforce what your dog has learned in training or better still, teach him a new trick every now and then.

Training a dog to roll over is a pretty simple task, just make sure to have a few treats handy! Initially, try to get your dog to lay on the floor. Hold a treat between your forefingers near the left side of your dog’s head, and then slowly pass the treat in front of his face and to the opposite side. They’ll follow your treat with their nose which will cause them to roll over. As he rolls over say out loud, “roll over.” Repeat this until he rolls over with the command alone. Put your frustration aside and he’ll be performing this trick all over the place in no time.

When training dogs, use a similar tone and volume when you give commands. This will let him know you are serious and he needs to listen. In time, your dog will understand what you want regardless of which words you use.

Remember to have patience when it comes to training your dog. This reduces frustration and annoyance when dog training. Understand that your dog actually wants to please you, however he/she can be confused with what it is you want them to do.

Use the same hand signal or voice command to get your dog’s attention. Start all commands with the dog’s name. This will get his attention, and then you can tell him what to do. This will get their attention quick and aid your training routine.

Dog training is built upon love, patience, and treats. The ideas above are sure to pave the way toward a lasting, rewarding friendship between you and your pet. Although it will take time, consistent training will result in more contentment for both you and the dog.

Tips to train and bond with your dog

October 23, 2013 By

Training a dog can be overwhelming to those who are new at it. Since there are many different training techniques, you may feel confused on what is best. This article contains some basic information to help you as you undertake the training of your dog.

During the dog training process, take care not to inadvertently reinforce bad behavior. Essentially, you must not give your dog something positive, like attention or a treat, when it behaves in a way you want to classify as negative. For instance, don’t pat your dog on the head if it’s jumping up on you.

Training a dog to roll over is a pretty simple task, just make sure to have a few treats handy! Start by commanding the animal to lie down. Now, with a treat in your palm, move your hand from one side of the dog’s face to the other. This will cause your dog to use their nose to follow the treat. As a result, your dog will roll over. As he rolls over say out loud, “roll over.” Repeat this until he rolls over with the command alone. This may take time, so don’t become frustrated.

As your dog progresses in training, you can provide more freedom. The balance between freedom and obedience can give dogs a great life. Be sure not to give them too much since this can counteract training efforts.

Have a good treat ready for your dog when it completes something that you ask. It is important for your pet to understand that you have certain expectations, what those expectations are, and that he will be rewarded for complying. Your dog will soon learn the difference between good and bad behavior.

Begin the training with an easy to learn behavior. This will act as a foundation for further training as well as help you see instant success. This will produce better results as you proceed with training.

Dog Training

Stick with positive reinforcement when it comes to dog training. Praise your dog when he deserves it, and give him treats to show that you are pleased. Never hit or shout at your dog. This doesn’t work well and only succeeds in teaching your dog that its master is out of control. The ideal results from dog training come from efforts that are positive in nature with consistent and firm applications.

Good dog grooming habits can assist you in training your dog. Dogs coats vary from very short to coats that have to be regularly groomed. Properly grooming your dog is important to keep them content and healthy.

It is possible to teach your pup to wait to eliminate, if you are consistent in your training. If you are home, spend time everyday with your puppy, and take him out every hour or so. When the dog relieves himself outside, give him praise. Try not to get angry and reprimand your dog if he/she goes in the house. He is not yet aware that this is wrong and he is going to learn if you just yell at him. Make a habit of walking him around fifteen minutes after eating or drinking anything, and after coming out of his dog crate.

It is hoped that you have found some guidance from these suggestions. Use this advice to improve the success of your next dog training session.

Helpful dog training advice that your dog will love

September 24, 2013 By

Much like a television or other electronic device, dogs must be programmed and trained to produce certain results. Working capabilities are there, but like a remote, a person must help it work with their TV. Dogs already have in them the innate intelligence to be trained, but a person needs to follow tips like these in order to bring the skills out.

Make sure that you use a gradual process when training your dog. Start small and build up a bit daily. End the session as soon as your dog’s attention begins to stray.

Establish a calm environment when you enter a room that your dog is in. During playtime allow your dog to be feisty, but teach him to remain calm when someone enters a room. Avoid acknowledging the dog upon your entry, and you can foster the sort of controlled environment necessary to good behavior.

Only reward your dog if they are calm. If you are able to command your dog to do something the right way, then it is good to calmly reward your dog. You might be thrilled with that accomplishment, when you are excited, they becomes excited and that cuts down the control in the situation. If you are able to maintain your calm, you can expect your dog to maintain calm too.

If you intend to use a crate in dog training, make sure the crate is an appropriate size for your dog. You should keep in mind that your dog will get bigger. Choose a crate that can grow with him. Don’t restrict the size so much so that the dog cannot lie or turn easily.

Try not to reinforce bad behaviors from your dog. Avoid giving them any rewards they haven’t earned. For instance, avoid rubbing the dog’s head every time they jump up when you get home.

Take caution when near an unfamiliar dog and offer them a chance to sniff your hands. As you do this, you give the dog an opportunity to acclimate to your scent and become used to your presence. Dogs are more likely to be friendly and obedient if they recognize you.

Remember to exercise patience whenever training your dog. Staying patient will help all parties to avoid frustration. Remember that your pet desires to please you but he gets confused due to him not understanding what you want him to do.

Utilize primary reinforcement when training your furry friend. This utilizes something the dog loves as a means to reward positive behaviors. You can use dog treats or a bunch of love to reward your pet. The best rewards are things your dog already likes and wants.

To ensure that your dog maintains good behavior, you must continue his training throughout his life. Training should not stop because he is not a puppy anymore. By reinforcing the best behavior and providing stern discipline, the negative attidue behavior will cease to appear.

Once a person has figured out how to bring out the dogs abilities to learn and be trained, it is simply a matter of practicing those techniques. As much as the owner will be pleased with what the dog has learned, the dog will also be happy.

Enhance your dog’s intelligence with a training routine

September 24, 2013 By

Appropriate dog training is important in ensuring that your home environment remains peaceful for your dog and for yourself. This article can give you some great ideas. Some things you learn here might make living with your dog a bit easier.

Small steps, gentle ways and patience are all a part of getting your puppy used to their crate. First, put them inside with the door still open. When they get used to that, close the gate and give them a treat they like. Gradually increase the amount of time your dog spends in the crate, starting with just a few seconds. If your puppy starts acting distressed about going into the create, you need to slow things down.

Timing is important when dog training, so you should spend sufficient time training him but should not overdo it. Begin with brief sessions and extend them from there. When your dog loses interest, quit for the day.

Dogs generally focus on one thing while ignoring everything around them, unless something interrupts that intense focus. With enough training, your dog should be able to pay more attention to your orders.

Be careful not to reward bad behaviors without realizing it. Don’t give praise or treats to your dog if it does something wrong. For example, do not pet your dog gently when they leap on you if you want them to stop the behavior.

By training your dog, you are helping him to become a rule follower. People think that just because their dog has been trained once, that is all they need. Pets are creatures of habit, and they need to constantly be taught new things. Make sure your dog has a regular routine.

Teaching your dog to not tug and pull when on his leash is an important part of his training. This will assure that the two of you are safe when you are out on walks.

Patience is the greatest virtue in dog training. This ensures that you both do not get frustrated. Understand that the proper training will come with time, so cut your dog some slack and let them learn.

Make sure to give your dog a good hour of exercise each and every day. Ensuring your dog gets thorough exercise will cause your training sessions to be much more effective, which will encourage your dog to behave better. As they say, a healthy dog will respond well to training.

House training a puppy can be frustrating, as accidents are going to occur on occasion. Always clean up accidents right away to help with the training process and keeping the area sanitary. The smell from the feces and urine can stay in the carpet, and cause your pet to want to relieve themselves on that spot more often. There are lots of products in the market that you can use in this aspect, so be sure to check your local pet store.

Before you correct your dog for barking, find out why he/she is barking in the first place. If you are aware of what causes your dog to bark, you can more easily address the issues. Your dog might be barking at other dogs or people when they come to the door.

It doesn’t matter your dog’s age or their troublesome history. If you utilize the advice provided above, you can make a huge difference in your dog’s behavior. Stay patient while using these tips. Hopefully, you can soon have a better relationship with your dog.
