Enhance your dog’s intelligence with a training routine

September 24, 2013 By

Appropriate dog training is important in ensuring that your home environment remains peaceful for your dog and for yourself. This article can give you some great ideas. Some things you learn here might make living with your dog a bit easier.

Small steps, gentle ways and patience are all a part of getting your puppy used to their crate. First, put them inside with the door still open. When they get used to that, close the gate and give them a treat they like. Gradually increase the amount of time your dog spends in the crate, starting with just a few seconds. If your puppy starts acting distressed about going into the create, you need to slow things down.

Timing is important when dog training, so you should spend sufficient time training him but should not overdo it. Begin with brief sessions and extend them from there. When your dog loses interest, quit for the day.

Dogs generally focus on one thing while ignoring everything around them, unless something interrupts that intense focus. With enough training, your dog should be able to pay more attention to your orders.

Be careful not to reward bad behaviors without realizing it. Don’t give praise or treats to your dog if it does something wrong. For example, do not pet your dog gently when they leap on you if you want them to stop the behavior.

By training your dog, you are helping him to become a rule follower. People think that just because their dog has been trained once, that is all they need. Pets are creatures of habit, and they need to constantly be taught new things. Make sure your dog has a regular routine.

Teaching your dog to not tug and pull when on his leash is an important part of his training. This will assure that the two of you are safe when you are out on walks.

Patience is the greatest virtue in dog training. This ensures that you both do not get frustrated. Understand that the proper training will come with time, so cut your dog some slack and let them learn.

Make sure to give your dog a good hour of exercise each and every day. Ensuring your dog gets thorough exercise will cause your training sessions to be much more effective, which will encourage your dog to behave better. As they say, a healthy dog will respond well to training.

House training a puppy can be frustrating, as accidents are going to occur on occasion. Always clean up accidents right away to help with the training process and keeping the area sanitary. The smell from the feces and urine can stay in the carpet, and cause your pet to want to relieve themselves on that spot more often. There are lots of products in the market that you can use in this aspect, so be sure to check your local pet store.

Before you correct your dog for barking, find out why he/she is barking in the first place. If you are aware of what causes your dog to bark, you can more easily address the issues. Your dog might be barking at other dogs or people when they come to the door.

It doesn’t matter your dog’s age or their troublesome history. If you utilize the advice provided above, you can make a huge difference in your dog’s behavior. Stay patient while using these tips. Hopefully, you can soon have a better relationship with your dog.

At Pawsitive Solutions, we specialise in helping you get the best possible relationship with your dog.
