Teach your dog new tricks with this great information!

August 14, 2013 By

While most people know that training sessions can greatly improve dogs’ behaviors, few are confident in their ability to take on the responsibility alone. It might be because you weren’t taught how. Training a dog is easy once you broaden your knowledge and understanding of canines. There are some training tips in this article that might be useful to you.

Reprimands should be delivered quickly and in a sharp tone. Do not whine and complain to your pet about their bad behavior. Simply address the issue and move on. Use a tone which is obviously one of consternation.

Dog training requires generous rewards that are given correctly. Quantity and timing are important when it comes to rewards. This is because a dog does not always understand what it is being rewarded for if they do not receive their treat at the right time.

Make sure the diet you are feeding your dog is healthy and nutritious. Too many table scraps can unbalance your dog’s diet. This can influence their behavior and harm their health. Making sure your dog’s nutritional needs are met helps give them the focus that they need to be able to learn.

Do not reinforce any negative behaviors accidentally. Essentially, you must not give your dog something positive, like attention or a treat, when it behaves in a way you want to classify as negative. For instance, do not pet the dog lovingly if it jumps on you the minute you arrive home if this is something you are attempting to cure.

Think of a word you can use as a command during training. A positive word will give your dog time to obey.

Let any dog you approach sniff your hand first so he can smell you. That is the first step in getting the dog accustomed to your smell and building trust between you. After he knows you and your scent, it is easier to command him.

Keep your sessions short to accommodate a short attention span. You will bore your dog if your spend a lot of time on just one thing. Try to limit initial training sessions to 10 minutes or less.

If your dog leaps on you, hold his paws and squeeze them a little so he will know this is not acceptable. This will not harm your dog if done gently, but it will be uncomfortable. This will help them to stop this action immediately.

Reduce as many accidents as possible when you’re toilet training your dog. Sometimes, your dog will have triggers for when its that time. It’s common for them to snuffle, wise and pace when they have to go. When this happens, take action immediately. Get his leash so you can take him to the designated potty area. Praise your dog when he does his business where he is supposed to. Do this consistently and he will always let you know when he needs to go outside.

Armed with the tips presented here, you can approach dog training with confidence. This information is a good start, but there’s always new things to learn, so be sure to keep an eye out for new information to see results sooner.

It’s easy to start dog training at home

August 12, 2013 By

You want your dog to be indoors, however, if this may be a challenge due to your dog not respecting your belongings. Chewed furniture and unwelcome little accidents are never pleasant. Training is the only answer. This article is filled with tips you will be able to use to train your puppy efficiently.

The key to successful crate training with a new canine is making sure they understand that it is their home. You should put their food in the crate when they eat, but leave the door open. This will create a good association between the crate and their food.

There are few effective ways to approach the matter of crate training your puppy or dog. To entice a hesitant puppy into the crate, give it the incentive of a toy or bone inside, with the door shut. They will see the toy inside the crate and will want in the crate to get it. If they do go into the crate, offer up praise and a treat.

The best way to train your dog is to reward it when it behaves properly. If you give your dog some treats at the proper time, they will respond to training. A dog quickly forgets his actions, so you must reward him immediately to reinforce his behaviors.

Look at things from your dog’s point of view. It’s easy to get mad if your dog is not doing the basic things you teach it. You should never give up on them, try looking at it from your dog’s vantage point. Consider how it would be to see the world in their eyes. Doing this will give you a completely different perspective, which should help you in training them.

Give your dog a word that tells them they’re doing the right thing. Even a simple monosyllabic spoken ‘yes’ can help the dog to connect the desired behavior with the imminent reward.

As the dog improves, greater freedom can be granted. The balance between freedom and obedience will give your dog a satisfying life. Do not allow them freedom all at once, they might lose what they learned.

In addition to regular walks and dog training sessions, you should make time to let your dog exercise for at least one hour every day. When your dog gets adequate exercise, he can be trained more effectively and it can bring out your dog’s good behavior. A dog that gets to exercise and have fun will be much easier to manage.

You should always call your dog in the same way. For example, state your dog’s name before giving a command. Give a simple command after beginning with the dog’s name. Dogs listen for their name because they know it means you will say something else.

Teach your dog a silent command to avoid barking. Every time he barks, tell them the silent order and then treat him. Then, you reward them with a treat. This positive reinforcement will help to get your dog to learn.

You may be finding it difficult to live with an indoor dog. You are losing your patience and losing good furniture. Use these steps to learn the proper way to train a dog to behave indoors.

Train your dog to be the dog you want

August 11, 2013 By

Train your dog

Dog owners buy their pet expecting things to turn out well. Yet, all too often things don’t go as expected and the dog is given to an animal shelter. This doesn’t need to be the cause, though. Proper training will produce a good well-behaved family dog. It doesn’t have to be hard to train your dog, you will see that if you spend a little time it can be easy.

Timing is critical during dog training, and you must spend sufficient time on training without doing too much. Start with a short session and gradually add more time to it. Know when your dog does not pay attention when you are training it.

Products that don’t work

Don’t waste your money on expensive training products, such as shock collars. These devices are expensive and do not always work as well as you would expect them to. Also, using devices such as shock collars can restrain your dog while discouraging good behavior. Generally, techniques such as these actually produce negative results.

As the dog gets better at training, you can let it have more freedom. The balance between freedom and obedience can give dogs a great life. Just be cautious not to give too much freedom at once, as this may have a counter effect on your dog training.

Patience

When training your pet, you must be patient. Using patience helps prevent frustration for both you and the dog. Don’t forget that dogs aim to please, however they often don’t understand what you want.

Your dog requires at least one hour of exercise every day. By allowing your dog ample play time, he will be more willing to pay attention during training time. An exercised dog is a happy and responsive dog.

Teach your puppy his or her name before you start to train him or her, as this creates a bond. Use their name often, and then teach them how to come to you when called. These are the preliminary words that your dog need to know. Spend a lot of time with him or her so that trust can be established. The puppy will be more open to more training down the line.

Consistency

It is important that you are firm with your dog for effective training. However, this doesn’t mean constantly yelling at your dog. Instead, find some balance between being firm and being loving. This approach helps to reinforce your relationship with the animal.

Using different tones for different training purposes can be a useful tool in training a dog. Use different tones for orders, praises, warnings and reprimands so your dog can easily distinguish your different reactions. Be firm at all times, but vary your tone depending on what you are trying to get the dog to do.

Teach your puppy to wear a collar while playing before you train him to use a leash. Having the puppy get comfortable wearing the collar is important not only so that you can properly use a leash but also that your puppy has the proper identification tags in case he or she takes off.

Persistence

Challenging though it may be, you can have a dog who is obedient, loving and healthy. Proper training and showing your dog lots of affection and kindness are important to making this happen. By sticking with the guidelines from this article, you can help to assure your pet’s place in your family as a happy and healthy presence.

For dog training mealtime is the perfect time

August 10, 2013 By

Many negative behaviors and habits can be removed from a dog. What is more, all of the positive traits associated with dogs like obedience, faithfulness, and respect, can be included with the correct training regimen. You will not find a better pet than a canine, but proper training is a must.

You need to reward your dog to be successful. Unless you offer treats appropriately and frequently, it’s almost impossible to keep him motivated and interested. Dogs can get confused if they are rewarded at inappropriate times.

It is dangerous to put more than one dog together in a close space. The two chains could get tangled up. This could panic you dogs as he tries to get free and he could potentially hurt himself. For example, a large dog could tangle the chain with a smaller dog, wrapping the chain around the neck of the small dog, causing it to die.

As you begin training your dog, create a verbal cue that allows your pet to understand the exact moment that they correctly complete your command. One good word can act as an appreciated segue from the good behavior to the ultimate reward.

Use your dog’s name often to ensure you have its attention. Call your dog by name as much as possible when you are first getting to know your pup; this will establish a connection between hearing the name and giving positive attention to the speaker. The best dog names are ones that are short and are different from other commands.

When housebreaking your puppy, accidents will happen. Always clean up accidents right away to help with the training process and keeping the area sanitary. When a dog uses the house to relive itself, the smell can linger on the carpet if not cleaned properly. You will then have a dog that will continue to use that same spot all of the time. There are a variety of products that will help you remove the odor; check with the local pet store or department store.

The best way to train your dog is to use different tones of voices. A command should have a different tone than praise so that your dog can better understand how his behavior causes your reaction. The best advice is to use a firm voice for commands, a louder voice when correcting your dog and a higher voice when praising your dog.

Pay attention to other dogs while walking your canine companion. There are aggressive dogs, and not every owner is at fault. If you are aware of an antisocial or aggressive dog, steer your dog away.

While training your dog, you need to introduce it to different social situations as early as possible. Dogs must learn how to behave around both humans and other dogs. Doing this will also decrease the likelihood that the dog will respond poorly when introduced to new environments.

A good training tip is to be aware of the special grooming needs of your dog’s breed. While some dogs just need a few baths a year, other breeds have to be clipped and cleaned more frequently. A happy dog is a clean dog, so to train him, he must be groomed.

When it comes to training your dog, never give up. Through constant and positive reinforcement, you will be able to train your dog to retain the behaviors you teach them. Training never ends. It is an important part of taking care of your dog.

Dog Training

By now, every dog owner should be aware of how easy dog training can really be. With solid information and a good mindset on the part of the owner, dog training can happen. Any dog can take on the challenge of learning the things that their owner is trying to teach them and thrive.
