A few tricks to help you train your dog

August 30, 2013 By

Your happiness, as well as your dog’s, is based on its training. A dog training routine makes it easier for you and your dog to understand each other’s expectations. If your dog has been trained effectively, you will be less reluctant to leave him at home alone, allow him to interact with visitors or spend time together in public places like dog parks. It might not have been an easy road, but you will soon know that the time you spent on training your dog will have been worth it.

When doing crate training, train your dog incrementally rather than trying to do it all at once. If they are uncomfortable with the door closed then try to feed them snacks to reassure them that they are okay. Start off only putting them inside for 10 seconds, and when they seem okay with that, slowly increase the time they are inside. If the puppy gets too upset then you increased the time too much, too fast.

Consistency is very important when you are crate training your puppy. When letting your dog out of the crate, be sure to immediately allow your dog to relieve himself. Eventually, the puppy will learn to wait to pee until given the opportunity.

Multiple repetitions will be necessary for a dog to learn new commands. You might have to repeat the same exercise up to fifty times before your dog remembers it. Continue trying the same command and be patient, your dog will get it.

Choose one phrase to use every time you want your dog to do his business. Each time you let your dog out to relieve himself, use a phrase such as “go potty” so that he associates going outside with going to the bathroom.

Always have a treat for rewarding your dog. You want to teach your pooch that good behavior is beneficial. This is a good way to make your dog know the difference between a good and bad thing.

Primary Reinforcement

Primary reinforcement should be used when dog training. Primary reinforcement makes use of something that is already inherent for a dog to love getting as a reward when they behave. Primary reinforcement could be treats or giving your dog a belly rub. This way, your dog learns the right way to get what he wants.

Do not quit when you are training your dog. You must supply constant reinforcement for your dog; if you fail to do this, the dog may forget what you taught it. Training for your dog never ends, think about it in the same manner as sheltering and feeding your dog.

When taking your dog on a trip, be sure to have collar and leash, food and water, your dog’s bed and plenty of plastic bags to clean up after your dog. In order to have a pleasant trip, food and water bowls, bathroom bags and paper towels are necessities. Take only a small amount of food and purchase more when you arrive at your destination.

Training your dog is essentially establishing relationship rules, and, like with people, enjoyment with each other will be so much more since the groundwork has been established. You must continue to reinforce what you are teaching your dog. Make your dog stay sharp on what he has learned, and pay attention to stop relapses in your dog’s behavior. When the time comes that you have trained your dog in the basics, the things you and he can achieve have no limit.

At Pawsitive Solutions, we specialise in helping you get the best possible relationship with your dog.

Great dog training tips anybody can use

August 29, 2013 By

Nowadays, many people attempt to have a clean home. If you own a dog, a large component of keeping your home clean is having a well-trained dog. But, training is a difficult process many have difficulty with. This article offers many tips and techniques on dog training.

The first thing that you must do is to command control over your dog. Your dog must see you as a leader, or they will not follow your commands. When walking with your dog, always walk first, never let your dog lead, as this is the leadership position.

Teaching a dog how to roll over isn’t too hard with a few treats in your hand. Initially, try to get your dog to lay on the floor. Then hold the treat at the side of the dog’s head and move it around it’s face to the other side. This will cause your dog to use their nose to follow the treat. As a result, your dog will roll over. Say “roll over” as he performs the action so that he’ll learn the command. Do not get mad if it takes several tries. Once they learn this particular trick, they will be popular at the dog park!

You should pick a phrase to say to your puppy while he is being house trained. Whenever you take your pet outside to use the bathroom, choose a phrase, like “go potty”, so he remembers what he is there to do.

When training dogs, use a similar tone and volume when you give commands. This tone tells the dog that you mean business and that they need to obey. It is important that your dog be able to distinguish between a command and a reprimand.

The first thing you should teach your dog is to “leave it.” This commands the dog to drop whatever is in its mouth. This simple command will get them to stop chewing on household items or furniture, and can keep them away from dirty or potentially dangerous items outside the home.

Keep training sessions short. Since dogs have a tough time paying attention, you do not want to draw out the process. If you want to train more, make sure to include play breaks for your dog.

A first step to training a puppy is get him used to hearing his name. Use his name as often as possible, and help him learn to come when you call him by it. This is the first set of commands you should teach your new puppy. Spending lots of time will create a strong bond with your puppy, and will lead to unbreakable trust. This way, you will find future training to be infinitely easier.

Pay strict attention to your body language and tone of voice anytime you are training a pet. Dogs can feel what they’re masters are feeling. Use a stern voice when you are correcting your dog.

Introduce social places frequently and early to your dog. It is important for your dog to understand how they should behave around humans and other pets. You will stave off any behavior that is unsavory in the future.

Because of all the dog-training knowledge you’ve gained, you should understand how to properly train your dog and maintain a clean home. Form strategies you can use every day, and watch as your dog becomes the perfectly trained pooch.

Training your dog can be fun for you and him

August 29, 2013 By

Although you may care for your things, your dog may not feel the same way. Your dog has no regard for material possessions, and yearns to chew on them. This article will provide proven tips and tricks that have been known to help eliminate unwanted dog chewing.

Always reward good, calm behavior. Reward them only when your dog is calm after it performs a trick. While you might be pleased, acting too excited may cause the dog to get agitated, lessening your control. Remain calm, expect them to be calm, and then award them when appropriate.

Continue training your dog so he doesn’t forget how to learn. Pet owners often believe that once their dog completes a training program, the process is over. However, pets are ruled by habits, structure and routine in much that same way that humans are. Therefore it is very important to maintain a good set of rules for your dog.

“Leave it” is a command that should be taught and reinforced early on. You can protect their safety and stop them from destroying valuables by teaching them to obey this simple command.

If you are going to be doing any training you need to know how to enforce the rules. This utilizes something the dog loves as a means to reward positive behaviors. Primary reinforcements include using food as treats and rubbing your dog’s belly. By doing this method of training, your dog will learn that in order to get what they want, they must do what you want.

Use positive reinforcement when dog training. Use petting, positive words, and occasion treats to reward your dog whenever he does something good. Do not ever scream at or strike your dog. This makes the dog think you are imbalanced. Stay positive but stand your ground when training your dog.

When you toilet train your dog, avoid accidents! Learn the signs that your dog needs to use the restroom. Constant whining, sniffing, and pacing around the house are all very common signs. The moment your pet begins to do any of these things, don’t waste a single moment. Get his leash and take him out to his designated toilet spot! Praise them for going to the bathroom properly. He will soon learn how to ask for the bathroom.

In order for your training to be effective, you have to understand that you’ll need to be firm. Try not to yell though, as negative reinforcement does not work. Maintaining a proper balance ensures that the relationship between you and your dog is strong.

Teach your dog a silent command to avoid barking. When he barks, show him his favorite treat, and repeat the command. “Quiet” works well. Only give them the treat when they obey the command. By repeating this, the dog learns that silence brings treats.

Give your dog new challenges often. Test the dog occasionally to check his memory, even though both of you know that he remembers his commands.

Be consistent when dog training. Keep a list of commands to use, and make sure everyone who might need to command the dog knows them. Also, make sure everyone knows what behavior should be rewarded, and what is considered bad behavior. If everyone is on the same page, the dog will better understand what is expected of him.

Every dog owner wants to help their pet become a well-adjusted member of the family and eliminate unsavory behavior like chewing and scratching on the furniture. This saves money, frustration, and perhaps even your dog’s life. These tips will be able to stop improper chewing.

Tricks on how to train your dog correctly

August 28, 2013 By

It can be very difficult and confusing to train a new dog. Of course obedience training is a necessity if you want a well-adapted and well-behaved dog. It is important that you remain positive while you are training your dog. You must be consistent and patient throughout the process. Set aside time to train your dog daily. Longer sessions than that result in boredom for the dog.

Your dog should know when calm time is to be had. You should make sure they are calm when you come into the house or in the room that they are in. Avoid acknowledging him as you enter. This helps to maintain a controlled atmosphere.

Do not tether two dogs close to each other. Their chains could get tangled up and as they struggle to get free; there is a good chance the dogs can get injured. It can even be fatal if you tie a large dog up with a small dog, and the large dog ends up getting a chain wrapped around the small dog’s neck.

If you house train your puppy, keep in mind that everything that goes in is eventually coming back out. In an effort to create regularity in your puppy, feed specific meals at specific times daily. If you know when the puppy eats, you will be able to better predict when to take him out. This means fewer accidents!

Shock Collars

Avoid training devices which are high end such as shock collars. They are often scams and, in any case, are completely unnecessary to proper dog training. Plus, using devices like shock collars can stifle your dog and discourage even good behavior. Usually if you do this your dog will respond in the wrong way.

Make sure to use the exact same tone with your dog every time you give him a command. The dog will know you’re telling them what to do that way. They will also know when you are being positive.

Primary reinforcement should be used when dog training. This technique uses things that your dog loves as rewards. You can use dog treats or a bunch of love to reward your pet. This will teach your dog how to get something he already wants.

Reduce as many accidents as possible when you’re toilet training your dog. Watch your pet to identify his unique behaviors and signals that indicate when he must relieve himself. It’s common for them to snuffle, wise and pace when they have to go. The moment your pet begins to do any of these things, don’t waste a single moment. Put his leash on and take him to the place you wish him to go. When he does go, praise him! Over time, he will be able to signal to you his need to relieve himself.

Create a specific command to stop your dog when it barks. Choose words to use, such as “quiet”, and when they bark, use the word or words and give them a treat when they stop. When your dog quits barking, offer him the treat. By consistently repeating this, your dog will be quiet because he wants the treat.

If you utilize the advice provided above, you are certain to succeed in dog training. As a result, your property at home and your pet will be safer. Using the tips and tricks offered above can make the harrowing task of training your dog a whole lot easier, especially if you are patient and consistent.
