Use this advice to succesfully train any dog.

August 17, 2013 By

When you first brought your dog home, you were probably having visions of Lassie, but there have probably been days that you were remembering Cujo more. With some consistent training, you can transform your rambunctious dog into an intelligent and attentive companion.

Ensure that your dog eats well. There are many reasons why bad diets are bad news for your pet. Not only does it affect the dog’s health, but it can have an impact on its behavior. Making sure your dog’s nutritional needs are met helps give them the focus that they need to be able to learn.

You have to be consistent with the crate training of your new puppy. When you allow the puppy to come out of the crate, you have to immediately and without fail give him the chance to relieve his bladder. This will teach your dog that he can wait until he gets out of the crate to relieve himself.

Do not tie a dog up near another dog, or dogs. The chain from one dog could wrap around the second and the dogs could get hurt trying to get free. This is especially dangerous if one dog is larger than the other, as it could use its superior size to maneuver the other dog into a dangerous position.

It is best to train your dog in a crate that is the right size. As your dog gets older, he will probably grow larger. Choose a crate that is sure to fit them suitably when they hit adult size. At full size your dog should be able to move around without feeling too constricted.

When trying to train your dog, avoid accidentally reinforcing negative behaviors. In other words, you must avoid showering your pet with treats or rewards in response to performing some unwanted behavior. If the dog jumps at you, don’t rub it’s head.

When you approach a strange dog, make sure you approach him slowly and allow the dog to sniff your hand. This gives the dog the opportunity to recognize your scent and start to trust you. After your dog gets your scent, it will no longer fear you and will follow commands better.

Training sessions with your dog are best when kept short. Your dog’s memory and attention span is short, keep the training this way. If you want a long session, make sure that your dog has a break in between.

Your dog will behave well if you keep reinforcing your training. A dog does not stop learning after puppyhood. By practicing positive reinforcement and proper discipline throughout your dog’s life, you’ll always have a well-behaved dog.

Try to find the triggers of your dogs barking to reduce this action. It may be a noise, or seeing other animals or people. Your dog will eventually come to realize that barking is unnecessary in reaction to these triggers.

You do not want to over-stress your new pup by trying to teach him too much too quickly. Puppies have short attention spans and they cannot focus too much, so have shorter sessions and try to be positive during them every time. He’ll likely forget everything you taught him if you do too much at once. He will also look at training as a negative experience and it will be harder next time.

People are often amazed about how easy it can be to train your dog and how quick they see changes. If your dog is getting on your nerves, it’s time to put the above tips to use.

Great tips for training your dog

August 17, 2013 By

Training your dog can have many benefits. The dog can exhibit much better behavior, and your ownership skills will improve tremendously. The piece that follows explains the positives of training your dog and how you can get the most of every session. You might be surprised by how much you enjoy training your dog.

When crate training your new puppy or dog, there are a few tricks you can apply. If they are hesitant about the crate, you can put a nice chew bone inside and shut the gate while they are not in it. If a dog sees something in the crate that they want, they will desire to enter it. Once they go in the crate, praise them so that they know they did well.

It is not difficult to teach a dog how to roll over, and having some treats on hand makes it easier. Start by commanding the animal to lie down. Next, you must hold one treat close to the floor off to one side of their head and slowly bring it up and over the dog’s head to the opposite side. He will naturally use his nose to follow the treat, thus rolling over his whole body. Whenever you dog does roll over, actually say the words, “roll over.” Continue to do this until your dog actually rolls over whenever you say the words without using the treat. Never become frustrated if it does not happen right away. Once he does learn how, he will be a celebrity among other dogs.

Once your pet is able to progress through training sessions, you’ll be able to loosen the reins somewhat. Balancing obedience and liberty make dogs feel very satisfied. Do not allow them freedom all at once, they might lose what they learned.

Teaching a new puppy to “leave it” is very important and one of the first commands that you should work on. This is great if the dog chews on household furniture or other items, such as shoes, stuffed animals, or trash.

Training Sessions

During your training sessions, you should keep a close eye on the time. Spending too much time just on one aspect of training will bore your dog and waste your efforts. Try limiting training sessions to 10 minutes or less.

The first step in training a puppy is to make sure he knows his name. Use his name on a regular basis, and teach him that the appropriate response to hearing is name is to come over to you. You should make sure your puppy learns their name and knows to respond to it. Be sure to spend lots of quality time with your puppy, so that he will learn to know and trust you. This way, you will find future training to be infinitely easier.

If you plan on housebreaking your pet, you must work hard to avoid any preventable mistakes. Pay attention to the cues your dog displays to indicate that he needs to be outside. Common behaviors include snuffling, whining, and pacing around. When you see this, don’t delay. Get his leash and take him out to his designated toilet spot! Reward your dog for getting your attention when he needs to go out. He will soon learn how to ask for the bathroom.

There are many benefits to a trained dog. If you take the advice of this article, and apply what you have learned, you will find that dog training can be fun. You and your dog will enjoy learning how to work together and follow the rules.

Well-trained dogs are happy dogs and good citizens

August 17, 2013 By

Human training would be a more appropriate name for dog training. This is because a dog cannot be effectively trained until the owner learns how to go about doing it. There is no basic, dog training instinct bred in humans. It is a task that must be learned. There is some solid advice in this article about how to do that.

If you have to keep your dogs outside, never tie them up too close to one another. It is just too easy for dogs in such a situation to tangle their leads together, and this can lead to serious injuries for both of them. If the dogs are different sizes, it could be even worse. A small dog could easily choke to death if it were to get too tangled up with a larger breed.

Choosing the correct crate size is extremely important. Do not forget that all puppies will grow up. Be sure to select a crate that allows your dog to have ample room as it grows. Your dog should be able to easily turn around and sleep without being overly crowded.

Whenever you want your dog to complete a task, you must reward it. They need to know that the behavior they have done is exactly what you wanted them to do. Doing so makes your dog learn what he can and can’t do.

Try to get your dog on a regular feeding schedule. This can help you avoid accidents on the carpet by becoming aware of when the dog needs to go. Using this schedule can teach your dog how to hold their piddle until the upcoming potty break.

To ensure your dog’s good behavior, keep up its training throughout its life. Training does not stop when your dog leaves his puppy stage. By reinforcing positive behavior, your dog will remain obedient, just as continued discipline can stop poor behavior from taking hold.

To reduce your dog’s barking, try to understand what is causing it. It might be a noise or simply coming into contact with other animals or people. As you begin getting your dog accustomed to these situations, he will be less likely to bark.

To prevent barking, teach your dog simple methods to quit them. Every time he barks, tell them the silent order and then treat him. Then, you can give your pet the treat. By consistently repeating this, your dog will be quiet because he wants the treat.

Keep your eyes on other dogs as you walk your own. It’s not always the owner that is responsible for a dog being aggressive. If you encounter an antisocial or aggressive animal, make sure your dog stays away from it.

When training a dog, make sure to stay consistent. A list of directives should be available to anyone who may give instructions to your dog at some time. Anyone needing to handle your dog should follow the same program, using reward for good behavior and taking care to never reward bad behavior. By having different responses from different people will most likely confuse the dog, which may make the training more problematic.

Now that the people who are interested in training their new pet dog have, hopefully, learned some new tricks, they can proceed to pass them along to their pets. Once a dog is on its way to learning, the owner will begin to appreciate the dedication that he or she has shown for doing the right thing for man’s best friend.

Read these tips now for a more well-trained dog

August 17, 2013 By

Lots of great reasons exist for getting yourself a dog. Sometimes you need a companion, while other times, you want to teach your children responsibility. No matter what your reasoning for getting a dog, having a well trained one will be ideal. This can only be accomplished through training. You will find great tips below that will help you to properly train your dog.

Crate train your puppy in small steps, so that the training is most effective. Eventually they will become comfortable with the crate and you can then try to shut the door to the crate. When they allow the door to shut you can give them a treat through the wiring. Start with short times numbering in mere seconds, and increase the intervals gradually. If the dog doesn’t like it, slow the process.

Give them chew toys for pain relief while teething, and keep everything else out of reach. Give it an actual chew toy in its place. A frozen washcloth can provide teething relief for your pup.

Do not tie up several dogs in close proximity to each other. It is possible for the chains to become intertwined, and the animals can be hurt as they try to get free. Situations like this can cause dogs of various sizes to cause fatal injuries if not properly monitored. Always err on the side of caution.

Give your dog a clear verbal cue that means “yes” to aid in training. “Yes” is the perfect word to show dogs approval before giving a treat.

Your dog needs to be up to date on his training. This will help to make them more obedient. Many times, owners feel that since their animals have gone through dog training, they can just forget about it. Dogs, though, are like people in the way they fall into habits. Dogs, much like kids, do best when they have limits and rules.

Call your dogs name when speaking to him to keep him focused. You puppy will develop the association between his name being called, and him needing to pay attention to what you are telling him. Make the name simple and easy for the puppy to recognize.

Accidents will happen sometimes when you house train your pet. Your training will go more smoothly if you always clean up accidents right away. Urine and feces scents can attack to the fibers of your carpet, which will lead to your dog repeatedly using the bathroom in that spot. There are lots of products in the market that you can use in this aspect, so be sure to check your local pet store.

To keep dogs from scratching at doors or jumping on people and furniture, try spraying them with a water-filled spray bottle. This will teach your dog that there are certain behaviors that are unacceptable. Your dog will instead focus on good behaviors with more positive outcomes.

In dog training, socialization is of the utmost importance and must begin early. Your dog has to learn how to behave around other animals and people. The best way to develop good behavior in these situations is to put your dog in the environment as much as possible. This helps reduce unacceptable behavior in social environments.

After reading this article, you have the necessary knowledge to effectively train your dog. Hopefully, you’ve gotten enough ideas here to get started. Remember, an obedient dog is the goal. However, this can’t be achieved instantly and requires some time and patience.
