Tips that will make training your dog much easier

September 15, 2013 By

When your dog is obedient from the get go, you’re blessed. When he’s not, you have to start training. Apply this advice as you work hard to groom a happy and healthy member of your family.

Try to walk in your dogs shoes before you criticize them. A lot of owners get frustrated when their dog is not understanding a basic command. You should never give up on them, try looking at it from your dog’s vantage point. Your dog may not understand because it hasn’t been said enough.

Get your dog the proper nutrition required for canine health. Eating a poor diet will negatively affect your dog in many ways. Without proper nutrition, your dog’s general health will suffer and there may also be direct effects on behavior. By making small changes to your dog’s diet, you can alter their receptiveness to the training.

Do not tie a couple of dogs closely together. The restraints for each dog can become tangled and in an effort to free themselves, they can be injured. For example, a large dog could tangle the chain with a smaller dog, wrapping the chain around the neck of the small dog, causing it to die.

Training a dog to go outside to pee means remembering that they’ll have to go after ingesting food or water. Make sure that you feed your dog at least three times per day with good food. You can then schedule your walks at the right times to prevent unwanted accidents.

The first step in dog training is commanding control. If the dog does not understand that you have control he will ignore your commands and act with outright disobedience. Do not let your dog walk ahead of you when you go on walks.

Do not ever use a shock collar to train your dog. They often do not function properly and their cost is rarely justified. They can also discourage good behaviors as they inhibit your dog’s behavior too much. Generally speaking, these techniques often produce undesirable results.

Always get your dog’s attention the same way. Start all commands with the dog’s name. You can get their attention by doing this and then use the command. Dogs commonly respond quickly when their names are called, and they realize that you want their attention.

If your training program is to be successful, you must be committed to asserting yourself firmly. That said, love should prevail and yelling should never occur. This consistent interaction will lend toward a good relationship between you are your dog.

Your dog training needs to be consistent. Make sure that others are using similar commands if they are training your dog. Your dog will be more willing to be trained if he knows what to expect.

To prevent the dog from biting people or furniture or otherwise causing damage, use a water bottle to spray him. This teaches them that these behaviors are unacceptable. In no time you will have a well behaved pet of which you can be proud.

While training your dog, you need to introduce it to different social situations as early as possible. Your dog has to learn how to behave around other animals and people. The best way to develop good behavior in these situations is to put your dog in the environment as much as possible. Doing this will also decrease the likelihood that the dog will respond poorly when introduced to new environments.

Don’t despair if your pooch is acting crazy. By utilizing the right technique and some tenacity, it is possible to train most dogs. The article above offered some great advice to help you get started with the process of training your dog.
