Dog training tips to improve your pooch’s behavior

August 7, 2013 By

People often adopt dogs without considering it well. A dog is a real commitment. Training a dog improves their behavior and reduces the amount of trouble they get into. If you got yourself a dog in need of training, the article below can be very useful.

Positive reinforcement is important when training your dog. It’s very important to provide treats at the proper time. Your dog does not know why they are getting the reward unless you do it right after the positive behavior.

A healthy diet is important to the health and well-being of your dog. A poor diet is bad for your dog on several levels. Not only is this bad for their health, but it can influence their behavior towards you and their environment. Simply improving their diet may have a bigger impact on how they respond to training.

Your dog needs to be active frequently. Don’t let your dog sit around with nothing to do. They won’t get any exercise that way and if they’re too bored, they might sniff around and get into some trouble. If you do not have the full attention of your dog, they will be difficult to train. Your dogs will obey more quickly if you keep them well exercised. Go on extended walks or runs with your dog on a regular basis.

Before your dog can learn a new command it will take several repetitions. It is said that a human only masters something when they do it 10,000 times, and dogs are no different, although it should take much less repetitions than that! Continue trying the same command and be patient, your dog will get it.

Try a phrase that you will stick with to train your puppy when you are house breaking him or her. Use the same word or phrase each time you bring him out to go to the bathroom so that he understands what you want him to do and makes a memory link between the phrase and the act.

Always be sure to have a reward or tasty morsel for your dog when he follows a command or learns something new. It is important for the dog to realize when he exhibits the proper behavior in response to your commands. This can establish right from wrong quickly and efficiently.

If you encounter a dog with whom you are not acquainted, you should do so slowly and with the back of a hand outstretched. He’ll learn your scent and begin to have trust. Once a dog recognizes your particular scent, he will be unafraid and willing to obey.

You need to be use rewards and positive reinforcers when you are training your pet. Give your dog rewards every time he or she does something good. Never punish your dog with words or your hands. This makes the dog think you are imbalanced. Stay consistent and use positive reinforcement.

It is very important to train your dog early enough to head off the development of bad behavior. It makes it easier for the dog to learn the correct behavior first, than it is trying to make them unlearn old bad habits. If you never feed your dog table scraps, he will not beg for them.

It is still possible to train your pet if you have owned the animal for a long time. With the advice from this article, you can begin to train your dog to be the pet you’ve always wanted. It is smart to take quick action, though, so that the dog does not harm others due to a lack of training.

Try these tips to train your dog

Try these tips to train your dog

It may seem difficult to train a new dog. However, if you follow the advice here and learn how to strengthen the relationship between you and your dog, you will have a better understanding of his needs and what you need.

Consistency is very important when you are crate training your puppy. If you remove the pup from the crate, see to it that he has the means to go potty. The dog will grow his bladder so he can hold it for longer and longer this way.

Potty Training

When potty training your pup, remember that whatever he eats must come out. To keep your puppies toiletry habits regular, feed him a high quality food 2-3 times a day at the same time each day. You will know when it is time for your the dog to use the bathroom, reducing accidents.

The first step of training your pooch should be to assert your control. You must establish your dominance first and foremost, or your dog is unlikely to obey. For example, when you walk your dog you must be in front and you should insist your dog follows behind you.

Teaching a new puppy to “leave it” is very important and one of the first commands that you should work on. You can protect their safety and stop them from destroying valuables by teaching them to obey this simple command.

Use the same hand signal or voice command to get your dog’s attention. Try to use the dog’s name in the start of the command. Use his name to get his attention then follow up with a command. Dogs will respond instantly when their name is called if they know they are going to be rewarded.

Positive Reinforcement

Always train your dog with positive reinforcement. Your dog should be rewarded with both small treats and happy words. Do not ever scream at or strike your dog. Not only does it not work, it encourages the belief by the dog that you have no idea what is going on. Stay consistent and use positive reinforcement.

Bond with your puppy by making sure he learns his name before anything else. Call him by name frequently, and teach him to come when called. His name should be the first word he learns. By setting aside some special time for you and your puppy, you will give him the opportunity to get to know you, as well as trust you. When you set this trust early on, the puppy will be more open to the next steps in training.

Make sure your dog knows how to obey, to reduce the frequency of their barks. Use negative reinforcement to stop your dog from barking when it engages in this action. Then, you can award your dog with a treat. If this is done with sufficient frequency, the dog is sure to associate treats with the command to be silent.

Use the dog’s name as much as possible to ensure that it pays attention. Make sure to use the dog’s name constantly when you first have him, so he can make the connection with his name and paying attention. Choose a puppy name that sounds differently than other words your puppy may hear throughout the day.

Since you have learned these new facts, you will now able to enjoy having a calmer more obedient dog that will surely provide better benefits that you and your whole family can enjoy. Use the advice you learned now and get started on a better relationship with your dog.

Your dog depends on you to know what to do

April 12, 2013 By

Dog Training Glasgow

You may be a novice when it comes to training a dog. That means you will want great tips and ideas on how to properly do this training. This will allow you to create the best behaviors for your pet. The following article will help to make training your dog a little easier.

Make sure that the only items your dog can reach are chew toys that are specifically made for dogs. Put the chew toy in front of it immediately so it learns that this toy is what it should be chewing. A frozen washcloth can provide teething relief for your pup.

Before you begin training your dog, you need to establish yourself as the alpha. Make sure he knows that you know what you are doing and are in control of the situation. Then he will look to you and defer to your judgment. Always walk ahead of your dog when you go on walks, as this establishes that you hold a position of leadership.

Patience

Patience is key in dog training. Staying patient will help all parties to avoid frustration. Your dog wants to do what you ask him to, but you have to give him the commands in a way in which he understands what is expected.

You can continue to train your dog as they age. The dog does not stop learning as it grows older. By practicing positive reinforcement and proper discipline throughout your dog’s life, you’ll always have a well-behaved dog.

Don’t approach a strange dog too quickly. Hold our your hand and slowly move closer. This gives the dog the opportunity to recognize your scent and start to trust you. Dogs that know your smell are less likely to fear you and more likely to obey commands.

Additional Considerations

Keep track of the number of treats you give your dog. Your dog needs to watch his weight, too. The number of treats a dog gets during training can rack up pretty quickly, and a lot of owners overlook this part of their canine’s diet.

Spaying or neutering your dog is recommended at six months of age. Have this done before the dog begins obedience classes. Any dog not “fixed” will be very excitable and easily distracted in obedience sessions. By spaying or neutering a dog he will have a longer happier life.

Whenever you train your dog to play fetch, make sure you show them that you are in charge by having him bring you the ball. If you pick up the ball after he drops it somewhere else, then you are sending him the message that he is the boss. By doing this, your dog starts to learn what you want from him.

Always reinforce positive behavior in your dog. Positive reinforcement training focuses on rewarding desired behaviors, not on punishing undesirable behaviors. If you punish the bad behaviors, your dog can end up terrified of you. Your dog will be more likely to behave if he knows he will be rewarded.

As you’ve witnessed from the above article, training your dog is crucial for having a well-behaved and cool dog. Reading this article will help you become more adept at training your dog.
