Training your dog does not have to be hard

August 3, 2013 By

You can have a peaceful home if you train your dog correctly. Give some of the following tips a shot. You may find life with your dog becomes less stressful this way.

Reprimands should be delivered quickly and in a sharp tone. It’s not good to rant about how bad your dog is. Say no and give them a command to do the right thing. Do not scream, but rather use a loud and firm voice so they understand that you are serious.

Make sure your dog is up and active often. Dogs can get bored easily. If your dog is not receiving enough mental stimulation, it may not respond well to training. It is easier for your dog to focus if he is happy and well exercised. Regularly take a walk or run with your dog.

Make sure to give your puppy plenty of toys that are okay to chew, so that he isn’t tempted to chew other things that aren’t okay to chew. Replace the item immediately with one of the dog’s own chew toys. To help your dog cope with painful teething, give him a wet washcloth that has been frozen.

If you house train your puppy, keep in mind that everything that goes in is eventually coming back out. You can promote consistency and regularity by feeding your pet on a firm schedule two or three times daily with only the highest quality of food. You will know when it is time for your the dog to use the bathroom, reducing accidents.

Pick a consistent phrase to use with your puppy while house training. Every single time you take your pup to do his business, say something like “need to go out?”. It does not matter the phrase you choose, as long as you keep it consistent. This will keep him focused, and will teach him to associate those words with the action of relieving himself.

Always be ready with dog treats. You want to teach your pooch that good behavior is beneficial. This can establish right from wrong quickly and efficiently.

Take caution when near an unfamiliar dog and offer them a chance to sniff your hands. That is the first step in getting the dog accustomed to your smell and building trust between you. After the dog becomes familiar with your smell, he’ll start to trust you and listen to you.

You have to be firm during dog training. This does not mean you should continually admonish your dog. Balance firmness with love for best results. Doing so improves the relationship between you two.

You can rest assured that when you train your puppy, they may have an accident in the house. Make certain the accidents are cleaned up immediately, so your training efforts cans stay on course. If your carpet begins to smell like urine and feces, your puppy will believe that it is the right place to potty and return to it again and again. Visit a good pet shop to find products created especially for odor control.

Your dog should enjoy training. Aim for a 10-15 minute training session, which is optimal for the dog’s attention span. Be generous with rewards, and don’t forget to add some variety. You should lavish praises on your dog for following your instructions. If your dog enjoys the training exercises, the dog is more likely to be responsive.

No dog is too old or out of control for training, and the advice you read here can help you get a good handle on his behavior. Just make sure you remain patient when training your dog. After this, your pet will be happier and healthier.
