Have fido acting his best with these dog training ideas

August 15, 2013 By

It has been widely accepted that a well trained dog leads to a better relationship between owner and pet. If you train your dog the right way you will see that your whole family will love their new pet. Read this article to begin improving the relationship you have with your dog.

A main focus of training is timing your sessions appropriately. Begin with small sessions and increase the time daily. You can figure out when your dog isn’t paying attention during training.

You need to teach your puppy how to leave an item alone with a simple command such as “leave it.” This basic command is extremely helpful when your dog is chewing on something he shouldn’t and also helps to keep him away from dangerous items.

Have fun with your dog each day when training. It builds a strong bond between the two of you and encourages them to want to please you. While training can be fun, try having play time with your dog every day for a period of time.

Your dog requires at least one hour of exercise every day. Making sure that your dog gets enough exercise makes your training sessions a lot more effective and it will also encourage your dog to have good behavior. A dog who has received plenty of exercise is happier and more responsive.

Keep notice of dogs that are nearby when you are outside with your pet. You have no idea how well trained the other dog is. If you see a dog acting aggressively or fearfully, avoid that dog.

Do not quit when you are training your dog. You must supply constant reinforcement for your dog; if you fail to do this, the dog may forget what you taught it. Consistent training is key to a happy relationship with your pup.

If you’re taking your dog on a trip, take all of his gear with you. Pack his feeding bowls, potty bags, toys, blankets and everything else needed for his care and comfort. It is often just as easy to buy a bag of food once you reach your destination as it is to pack it up and bring it along.

With consistency, you can train your dog to hold on longer. When you’re home with your puppy, take it out as often as possible. When he does use the bathroom outdoors, give him lots of praise. If you dog has an accident inside your house, do not scold him. In the beginning, they won’t understand what they did wrong. Instead, give the pet every chance to succeed by taking it outside as soon as you remove it from the crate and roughly 15 minutes after it eats or drinks.

Be consistent when dog training. Write down the specific commands you want to use with your dog, and get everyone in your household to review the list and use the same words. Behavior should be rewarded or not depending on the affect that is being sought. If different people in your household respond to the dog in different ways, it becomes confusing for the dog and less likely they will respond in the appropriate way.

Training Sessions

During your training sessions, you should always reward your dog immediately after he performs the desired behavior. Over time, you can adjust your approach to reward the behaviors with a treat only three-fourths of the time. This frequency can be decreased as you progress through training sessions.

A lot of pet owners do not realize that you can easily train a dog and it does not take as much as they thought. Simple changes in our own behavior, as well as simple techniques that we implement, can result in big improvements in our dog’s behavior.

Everything you need to know about dog training

August 15, 2013 By

Dog training may be intimidating for first time pet owners. There are so many resources available, that you may not know where to begin. The tips below can help you start training your dog properly.

A new dog needs to feel safe and happy in their crate during training. At meal times, try to place their food in the crate by leaving the door wide open while they’re eating. This will allow your dog to have a positive association with the crate.

Have a good treat ready for your dog when it completes something that you ask. After all, the point of rewarding him is to show him that he is following good behavior. By rewarding your dog after it does something you want, it will realize that it’s doing a good thing. Therefore, it will be more likely to continue this good behavior.

Training Sessions

Limit the duration of training sessions. Your dog will get bored and antsy if you spend too much time on one thing. Try limiting training sessions to 10 minutes or less.

Your training sessions should be very short. When your dog doesn’t get bored, they’ll be a better training partner. If you wish to do more training, give your dog a play break to stretch their legs and relax before resuming their training.

Toilet training is as much your responsibility as theirs. Learn the signs that your dog needs to use the restroom. Pacing, whining and snuffling are common. When this happens, take action immediately. Put his leash on and take him to the place you wish him to go. Reward your dog for getting your attention when he needs to go out. Soon, he’ll get the picture that he can ask to go outside.

Acclimate your dog to the source that triggers his barking fits. For example, many dogs bark because of a sound, other animals or people. Your dog will understand that there is no need to bark in these situations.

Training methods you use should be consistent. If more than one family member is taking part in training the pet, be sure that each person utilizes the same commands as well as a similar discipline and reward system. Dogs will learn better and faster if they have a set commands that they need to follow.

One tip to keep in mind when training your dog is to never, ever reward bad behavior in an effort to quickly end a behavior. The dog will only learn that it is the boss. An example would be giving the dog a treat ever time it starts to bark.

Regularly challenge your dog. Quiz him to see if he remembers the commands, even if you’re already sure he does.

You should use the name of your dog as a positive reinforcement more often than you use it as a reprimand. Your pet needs to understand that his name can represent something good. He should not be afraid to come to you when he is called.

Stay consistent when you are trying to train your dog.

Hopefully, the tips you have read here have offered you some helpful ideas. Remember these tips as a guide to helping you train your dog, so both you and your dog will be very happy.

Dog training tips that can save you time and headaches

August 14, 2013 By

Dogs of all breeds think the same way. You should try to think like a dog and you will have no problem with training. To cultivate that important understanding of the canine attitude, one could do a lot worse than to review the following tips.

When your dog is a room make sure you are calm when you come in. You should make sure they are calm when you come into the house or in the room that they are in. Don’t acknowledge your dog when you enter the room. By doing this, you will be able to create a controlled environment in which you determine when and how play time begins.

You should not tie up multiple dogs where they can reach each other, no matter how friendly they are. If chains get intertwined, the dogs can get hurt. If the dogs are different sizes, it could be even worse. A small dog could easily choke to death if it were to get too tangled up with a larger breed.

Primary reinforcement is critical to dog training. In this method the reward you use is something it is natural for your dog to want. Rewards can be rubbing a dog’s belly or giving it a treat. When he likes the outcome, he’ll be more likely to follow your commands.

Teach your dog that no response is required when you say ‘no’. It’s important to discover positive methods of reinforcing your dog’s training. Simply saying “no” is not enough to help dogs understand how they should behave. Every dog and situation is unique and you should adapt your strategies accordingly.

Avoid letting your dog have accidents when potty training. Try to recognize your dog’s body language and anticipate his need to go out. Pacing back and forth, snuffing and whining are some common signs. Do not hesitate when you see your dog do that. Get his leash as you take him out. Give him praise when he eliminates correctly. Eventually, he will learn to ask to go out.

The tone of your voice is important during training. Your commands should be said in the same tone and volume time and time again. Stand firm and be sharp when using commands. Use louder tones for corrections, and use your natural tone when giving praise.

Is your dog getting all their required nutrients? Like kids, a dog’s mood can be severely affected by their diet. If you switch brands of dog food to reflect the unique needs of his breed, your pet will become happier and more energetic–the perfect companion. Your vet should be able to provide advice.

Your dog should always be able to identify which behaviors are acceptable and which are not. Your entire household will need to be on the same page when it comes to boundaries. This can undo any progress you have made.

While it might be hard, make sure to be patient with your dog. Dogs cannot speak English, and they are not human. He’ll learn in time, but only with consistent reinforcement. Keep your cool, and take breaks if you find yourself too frustrated to continue a training session.

The most important step of dog training is understanding how they think. If you know these things, you can get your dog trained in a way that is the best for them. The owner knows more about their pet than anyone, and can give them better training.

Tame rover with some helpful hints

August 14, 2013 By

You may fall in love with your cute little doggy. If you’ve already got one, then congratulations are in order! Proper training of pets is the best way to build strong relationships with them. When your dog understands what is expected of him, you will be able to trust his behavior. Keep reading for great tips to help you and your dog have an excellent relationship.

Rewarding dogs properly and generously is the key to training. Giving you pet treats in a timely manner is very important. Unless you administer praise and treats as soon as the dog exhibits the desired behavior, he will not be able to connect the behavior to the treat.

Question how your dog views things. Things that seem simple to you may not be as simple to your dog if he is having a hard time learning them. Try to think the way your dog does. Try to see the world through their eyes.

Your dog’s diet plays a huge role in their training and establishing a definitive feeding routine is important. If your dog has a schedule for his feeding, he will learn when to expect his meals. Your dog will learn to eat in a few minutes instead of going back to the food bowl all day long.

Make sure that there is a calm environment in the room where your dog is. Play time is great, but your dog needs to learn to stay calm as his master enters the room. Don’t acknowledge your dog until you decide. This will establish a controlled atmosphere.

When your dog behaves well in a training session, reward him in a calm manner. If your dog follows a training command properly, then it is acceptable to reward the behavior to a calm animal. You may feel great about it, but you don’t want to make the pup feel over-excited. Set a good example by rewarding them calmly.

A healthy diet is essential for your dog. An unhealthy diet can have several negative effects on your dog. If your dog isn’t getting what it needs to stay healthy, it could really struggle to find the energy for training or may act out in other ways. Sometimes, it is possible to improve your pet’s behavior and cooperation simply by improving the quality of his or her diet.

To achieve the best results when housebreaking a pet, be aware of the food and water he consumes. To keep your puppies toiletry habits regular, feed him a high quality food 2-3 times a day at the same time each day. You will know when it is time for your the dog to use the bathroom, reducing accidents.

Pick the proper size crate for your dog if you want to be able to effectively use the crate to train it. Don’t forget, your puppy will grow. Choose a crate that is sure to fit them suitably when they hit adult size. There should be enough space to move around without feeling cramped.

It is hoped that these tips will help you and your pet enjoy a trusting relationship. Use the information that works best for you. Surely, you will have emotional ties to your pet. Training is what you need. It is important that your dog be well trained. Congratulations on being a pet owner.
