Your dog needs to be taught right from wrong

August 15, 2013 By

Cleanliness of the home is important to many, and keeping your dog trained correctly is key to keeping your home clean. However, many people have no clue about the proper training methods; that is why you need to learn whatever you can so your dog can be properly trained. Keep reading for some useful tips that will help you train your dog.

A main focus of training is timing your sessions appropriately. Start out with a small training session and up the time every day. When your dog loses interest, quit for the day.

Always reward good, calm behavior. Reward them only when your dog is calm after it performs a trick. Although you are certainly excited about your dog’s accomplishment, showcasing lots of excitement on your end can cause your dog to become too excited, which causes you to lose control. Stay calm and expect the same from your puppy.

Use consistency when you are crate training your young puppy. The first thing to keep in mind is that you must let him use the bathroom as soon as he’s let out. Your puppy will eventually become able to relieve itself less frequently.

A number of repetitions will be necessary before your dog will be able to master a new command. It may take 25-50 tries before your dog understands a command consistently and thoroughly. Keep working patiently on the command- he’ll get it with time.

When using a crate to train your dog, you’ll want to make sure that you select the right size. Keep in mind, puppies do not stay small forever. Choose a crate that your puppy can grow in, but won’t grow out of. They have to be comfortable moving around inside to ensure they aren’t crowded.

Verbal cues are very important to make sure that your dog is under your command. For example, using the word “yes” can let your dog know they can retrieve their reward.

Training your pet to roll over very easy. Just remember to have treats in hand. Initially, try to get your dog to lay on the floor. Then, use the treat to draw his head from one side to the other. He will probably follow the treat, rolling side to side as it moves. When he rolls over, you should say “roll over,” and repeat the process until the command is all he needs to do so. It may take a while to get to this point, but you will be pleased if you stick with it. It’s an impressive trick.

When training your dog, always remember to have fun. The two of you playing together will help build a strong bond, and that will encourage your dog to positively respond to the training. Despite the fun the two of you will have during training, it is important to set aside time that is designated to enjoyment only, with no work or training involved.

Every day, try to allow your pet to have an hour or so of exercise. This is on top of regular training lessons and restroom breaks. Your training will be easier and more effective if your dog gets good daily exercise. Fit dogs are happy and responsive to you.

After reading all this advice, you should have an idea on how you can approach training your dog and keeping your home clean. Once you create new ways to train your dog and use them consistently, your dog will exhibit good behaviors.
