There is no need to stress when it comes to training your dog

August 1, 2013 By

People go crazy for pets, not the least of which are dogs. Puppies often start out as destructive and somewhat difficult to control, though. Read this article for tips on how to train your dog.

When correcting your dog, be concise. Don’t drag on and rant how your dog is bad. Just tell them no, and point them in the desired direction. The tone of your voice should let them know you are serious about the command you are making.

Rewarding your dog generously and properly is essential in training your dog. Giving your dog treats at the right time and in the right amount is important. Make sure to give your dog the treats at the proper time, to encourage good behavior.

You should develop a feeding routine with your dog. Feed your dog twice a day and only leave his food dish out for fifteen minutes. This will help your dog learn his feeding schedule. Before long, your dog will learn to eat more quickly and efficiently.

Only reward your dog if they are calm. If your pet successfully completes a task, then reward him only if he/she is calm. This will help to excite your dog and leave you in complete control. Act calmly, expect calmness, and then appropriately reward the dog.

Get your dog the proper nutrition required for canine health. It is entirely up to you to provide a good diet for your pet. It is damaging to their health as well as making them more prone to bad behaviors. Improving your dog’s diet will also improve its mental capacity.

To house train your pup, get him on a set feeding and potty schedule every day. This allows you to know when your dog has to go and take him outside to do his business before your carpet gets ruined. This schedule also teaches dogs what it means to “hold it”.

Teach your puppy his name when you first start training him, as this creates a bond between the two of you. Use his name on a regular basis, and teach him that the appropriate response to hearing is name is to come over to you. These are the first few commands your new puppy needs to learn. It’s important that the time spent with your puppy is quality time. Spend your time playing with your puppy. This way he will get to know you quicker and will begin to trust you faster. This helps to build a relationship that will make it easier to train your puppy.

Control your tone of voice when reinforcing your dog’s behavior, whether positive or negative. Dogs are more receptive to the tones their masters use than you might realize. Using a stern tone will help reinforce discipline if used appropriately.

The best way to teach a dog good behavior is to never let poor behavior take hold. You and he will find it much easier to learn how do the right thing than unlearn the wrong. If you don’t want your dog to be constantly begging for food when you are at the table, don’t feed it food scraps in the first place.

Accidents are a part of training your puppy to go potty outside. Make certain the accidents are cleaned up immediately, so your training efforts cans stay on course. The odors from these accidents will remain in the carpeting, which will attract your pet back to this same spot to use again and again for elimination purposes. Many pet stores or big box stores sell products that help to eliminate the odors from pet accidents.

Your love of dogs and your desire to keep your house presentable should not conflict. Train your dog to avoid destructive behaviors like chewing. You can live happily with your dog if you keep the advice in this article in mind.
