Simple tips and tricks to help you train your dog

August 25, 2013 By

Many folks work to keep their home clean, and a large part of doing so is making your your dog is thoroughly trained. A lot of dog owners do not know how to train their puppies and get frustrated quickly when they do not get results. The tips in the article below can help you with dog training.

For the best results in training your pet, you must be diligent about giving rewards and encouragement. It’s very important to provide treats at the proper time. The reason is that dogs may not grasp why they receive rewards if they are given at odd times.

Make sure the diet you are feeding your dog is healthy and nutritious. Your dog will not benefit from a poor diet. Poor nutrition adversely affects your dog’s health and can cause uncharacteristic behavior. A simple improvement to their diet will work wonders in how a dog feels, and make it much easier for them to have a clear mind during training.

Do not tie up your dogs too closely. The leashes or chains can become intertwined, causing harm to one or more of the dogs. In the worst case, a large dog might be able to strangle or crush a smaller one, entirely by accident, while trying to free itself.

The first step of training your pooch should be to assert your control. Be friendly with your dog, but also be firm. Always walk in front of the dog when you go on walks, because this is the position to show leadership.

Take the time to teach your dog how to behave when on a leash. When they walk properly, it makes both of you safer when you both go walking.

Teaching a new puppy to “leave it” is very important and one of the first commands that you should work on. It ensures they don’t eat food they shouldn’t, chew on items not intended to be chewed on or even pick up dangerous or poisonous items in their mouth.

In addition to regular walks and dog training sessions, you should make time to let your dog exercise for at least one hour every day. This exercise will ensure that your dog is focused when it is training time. A dog who has received plenty of exercise is happier and more responsive.

Bad Habits

Your dog will be easier to train if you are careful to avoid letting him learn bad habits to begin with. It is much more difficult to break a dog’s bad habits, than to teach it correct behavior in the beginning. For example, if you are adamant about your dog not being a beggar, then never make any exceptions to handing him food from your table.

The best way to train your dog is to use different tones of voices. Praise, commands and corrections ought to have different tones associated with them so that the dog can understand what it is you want. The best advice is to use a firm voice for commands, a louder voice when correcting your dog and a higher voice when praising your dog.

As this article has shown, there are many tactics that can help you train your dog. You need to come up with techniques that you will be able to use everyday. When you have do this, you will soon have behaved dog.
