Need to know facts about dog training

September 9, 2013 By

You can have a peaceful home if you train your dog correctly. Use these tips. Some of these tips might make a difference in the relationship you share with your dog.

Make sure to let your pet know a crate is their home initially. Leave the crate door open and place food inside of it when it’s time to eat. They will think of their crate as a happy place.

When crate training your new puppy or dog, there are a few tricks you can apply. If they shy away from the crate, try placing a chew bone and shutting its gate when they are not inside. They will see and smell the bone and will want you to let them in there to get it. When they go inside to get the bone, give them lots of positive reinforcement.

When training a puppy to use a crate it is important to take your time and start with only a few steps at a time. When your dog appears to be at ease while inside the crate with the door ajar, you can help him adjust to the crate even further by slowly latching the door and rewarding him with treats fed to him through the spaces between the wires. Use small increments of time, and build them up as your puppy or dog becomes more relaxed with the process. If you notice the animal becoming tense or confused, you are probably proceeding too quickly.

Dogs have the uncanny ability to have single-minded focus when something catches their attention. With enough training, you will have your dog focusing solely on your signals.

Make certain you’re consistent when you are crate training your young puppy. Give the puppy consistent opportunities to relieve himself every time you let him out. With time, your puppy will wait for the right tine to relieve himself.

Use the right size crate for effective crate training. Keep in mind that they get larger as they age. Choose a crate that is sure to be the right proportions for the adult dog you will eventually have. They have to be comfortable moving around inside to ensure they aren’t crowded.

Avoid reinforcing negative behavior. This means that you should never reward your dog, with treats or attention, for doing something you’re trying to train it out of. Don’t scratch the dogs back, give it a snack or reward it in any way if it jumps, barks or does anything you don’t approve of.

Repeat training exercises every day until your dog remembers them. Do not assume that your dog will remember his training all his life. Some dogs will revert back to negative behaviors if the training does not continue. It’s important to be consistent with the rules for your dog.

Whenever you want your dog to complete a task, you must reward it. It is important for the dog to realize when he exhibits the proper behavior in response to your commands. This is how they’ll know what to do and what not to do.

It doesn’t matter what your dog’s age is. The information here can still make a difference. Be prepared to practice patience. Properly training your dog will make the both of you happy.
