The Barking Mad Coaching Programme
A unique 6 week programme aimed at dog aggressive dogs which will show owners how it is possible to enjoy walking their dog again!
The one challenging area I am asked to help with more than any other is with dog aggression .
Most owners with this problem admit that walking the dog has become so stressful and embarassing that they end up going out at 6am or after midnight, spend the walk scanning for other dogs and ducking round corners or passing the job onto other family members.
Dog aggression cannot be resolved without some interaction with other dogs and understandably other dog walkers are not always keen to oblige or never appear when needed!
I have developed this coaching programme to resolve these issues—to allow a group of owners to relax and work with each other and to be able to practice their new dog handling skills in a controlled but far less stressful way.
The Programme
Duration : 6 weeks – 3 stages
Group size : max. 6
Stage 1 week 1
A 2 hour workshop where you will meet other like -minded dog owners who have experienced similar problems to yourself.
What happens?
- You will leave with a good understanding of WHY your dog is mis-behaving
- You will be able to look at life through your dogs eyes….get into their head and understand what is driving him/her.
- Understand how your dogs behaviour IN the home impacts on his/her behaviour outside.
- Using actual case studies learn how YOUR behaviour has a direct influence on how your dog behaves. We have to be effective role models for our dogs.
- Understand how current legislation affects all dog owners.
- Have a clear view on what we will be doing in the one 2 one individual sessions which follow on from stage 1
- You will leave confident and motivated to start working with your dog.
Stage 2 weeks 2-3
3 x 2 hour individual sessions conducted in and outside your home
What happens?
- Dogs need to be looked at holistically. Issues often develop in the home as well as out on the lead. We will work on behaviours such as excessive barking, lack of owner focus (eye contact) jumping, distraction and /or lunging while on lead, destructive behaviours.
- After the first session you will have a written plan in place with clear instructions to follow
- You will have ongoing e-mail and telephone support between sessions
Stage 3 weeks 4-6
2 x 1 hour group sessions in a local park or suitable outside area
What happens?
- Dogs and their owners who have completed the workshop and individual training sessions will work together in a supervised and controlled way.
- You will have time and space to practice with other dog owners in a far less stressful environment.
- You will be able to walk your dog past others and deal with any bad-behaviour swiftly and confidently.
- You will notice your dog will be much more relaxed and happy on the walk.
- Importantly at the end of the course you will have the knowledge skills and confidence to maintain your dogs good behaviour and have hopefully made some new friends to continue with meetups in the park.
”Believe in yourself and you can achieve anything”
