How to train your dog in easy steps

August 27, 2013 By

When you decide it’s time to train your dog, it’s very common to be a bit lost. Good dog-training skills come naturally to very few people. In order to train your pet properly, preparing yourself with some good advice is an excellent idea. This article will provide you with that information and help you learn how to train your dog.

When you correct your dog verbally, try making those corrections short and straight to the point. Don’t rant on and on about how bad your dog is. Just say “no” and show them what to do instead. Let your dog know that if you raise your voice they need to pay attention.

Make sure your dog stays calm as you enter a space that he is in. Play time is great, but your dog needs to learn to stay calm as his master enters the room. To help your dog learn this behavior, ignore him when you enter the room. after you have been in there a few minutes, acknowledge him.

Keep your dog on a healthy diet. A poor diet is bad for your dog on several levels. Not only is this bad for their health, but it can influence their behavior towards you and their environment. Improving your dog’s diet will also improve its mental capacity.

Train your dog on a regular basis to make sure he understands the rules of the house. Most owners think training once is all that it takes. That’s not a good idea, since animals and humans form and retain habits in a similar way. Make sure your dog has a regular routine.

It is a simple task to teach a dog how to roll over, just be sure to keep some dog treats handy! First, have your pet to lay down. Then, hold the treat over your dog’s head and swipe it above and around his head, causing him to roll over. He should follow the treat with his nose, causing him to roll his whole body over. Be sure to say ROLL OVER as your dog is rolling. Eventually, he will learn to perform the trick upon command. Be patient while he masters this trick. He will be a star once he does!

Make sure food and outside time are scheduled to help break your dog into being an inside dog. This will give you an idea of when the dog is likely to have to go, so you can take it outdoors to take care of this matter before an accident occurs on your rug. A schedule is a great way to train a dog how to hold in their needs till they can go out.

One command that should be taught early to a puppy is “leave it.” This teaches them to drop something and step way from it. This will help prevent them from chewing on your furniture or other items, as well as prevent them from having dangerous items in their mouths.

In order to prevent barking, teach your dog to obey orders to be quiet. Any time the animal starts to bark, get its attention by showing him a tasty dog treat. Forcefully, speak the command until your pet ceases barking. You can then give it the treat. Repeating this enough times can help them associate the treat with the quiet command.

Now that you have been provided with this useful information, you are on your way to having a well behaved dog. You can also use this information to help people that need help with dog training.
