Here’s a hint. Your dog wants to make you happy

July 31, 2013 By

There are many reasons to have a pet dog. Some people enjoy their loyalty while others find them to be extremely cute. It should go without saying that an obedient dog is the ideal dog. The fact is that they require training. This article has tips to get that training!

Your training sessions must be long enough for your dog to learn the desired behavior but no so long that he becomes bored. Start with a short session and gradually add more time to it. You can figure out when your dog isn’t paying attention during training.

It is not difficult to teach a dog how to roll over, and having some treats on hand makes it easier. First, have the dog lay down. Afterward, bring the treat above the dogs head and follow over to their other side. He’ll follow your hand and roll over completely. As he is rolling over, give the “roll over” command, and do this repeatedly until he can roll over with just the command and without the treat. Put your frustration aside and he’ll be performing this trick all over the place in no time.

Make sure to use the exact same tone with your dog every time you give him a command. This helps your dog to understand when you are in training mode. It will also let the dog know the difference between an angry voice, a happy voice and an authoritative voice.

Let any dog you approach sniff your hand first so he can smell you. This gives the dog the opportunity to recognize your scent and start to trust you. Dogs that know your smell are less likely to fear you and more likely to obey commands.

Dog training means consistency. Use your dog’s name when giving a command. Then, say the command. Dogs are more likely to respond immediately whenever their name is called because they are aware that you want their attention.

In order for your training to be effective, you have to understand that you’ll need to be firm. You should not be extremely strict or loving all the time. Find a balance on gentle firmness to use with your dog. This is a good way to establish a good relationship with your puppy.

Understand that your every action is teaching your dog and shaping his personality. It is imperative that you know this, you might see that they will revert to bad things if they are teased. Keep directing your dog toward positive behavior without damaging it with negative behavior.

Giving up is not an option when it comes to training your pet. Your dog requires consistent reinforcement of training, or he may quickly forget what he has learned. Just as you need to keep feeding and sheltering your dog, training is a never-ending process.

If you are consistent, your puppy can learn to “hold it.” Try taking your dog outside each hour when you’re at home. Every time your dog potties outside, be quick to praise him. When he goes inside, don’t punish him. He is unaware of the problem, and shouting will be ineffective. It’s better to teach your dog to expect to potty outside by taking him out a few minutes after meals or after being crated.

Are you finally ready to continue training your dog? This idea has gotten you started in the right direction. It is important for your dog to be well behaved. But they require time and effort. Years into your relationship, you will be glad you made the effort. Use the advice best suited to the situation you are in.
