Follow these tips for successful dog training.

August 21, 2013 By

Never allow your dog to walk you, and be sure the dog always behaves when out and about. This article contains the critical knowledge you need for training your dog.

Put yourself in your dog’s proverbial shoes, or paws, rather. It’s easy to get mad if your dog is not doing the basic things you teach it. Rather than abandoning the training, consider what the dog might be thinking. Consider how it would be to see the world in their eyes. Doing this will give you a completely different perspective, which should help you in training them.

Your dog’s diet plays a huge role in their training and establishing a definitive feeding routine is important. Train your dog to understand that you are going to remove their food bowl upon fifteen minutes of feeding them. This will establish a feeding schedule for your dog. After some time training the dog this way, it will begin to finish the food before it is time to pick up the bowl.

Don’t allow your dog to jump on you when you get home. You should make sure they are calm when you come into the house or in the room that they are in. If you do not recognize them right away, they will be more calm.

During the dog training process, take care not to inadvertently reinforce bad behavior. You should avoid using strips of food or attention to train when you are trying to discourage behaviors. For example, don’t rub your dog’s head when they jump up at you and when you come in the door if you don’t want them to jump.

Use an even tone when commanding your dogs. The dog will know you’re telling them what to do that way. Your dog needs to understand that there is a difference between the tone you use to discipline your dog from the tone you use to give an order.

You should keep doggy treats handy for rewarding your dog. You want them to know they did the right thing. This is the proper way to make sure that your dog learns the difference between right and wrong.

Don’t overdo your training sessions, keep them brief and interesting for best results. Dogs can quickly lose focus when you prolong activities. Only spend 10 minutes during the first couple of sessions.

When you get your puppy, be sure to create a bond to him by helping him learn his name. Use their name often, and then teach them how to come to you when called. Your dog should learn these items before any others as they’re the most important. Be sure to spend lots of quality time with your puppy, so that he will learn to know and trust you. If the puppy trusts you, he will be easier to train later.

If you plan on housebreaking your pet, you must work hard to avoid any preventable mistakes. Sometimes, your dog will have triggers for when its that time. It’s common for them to snuffle, wise and pace when they have to go. Don’t delay; bring them outside. Get his leash and take him out to his designated toilet spot! Give him praise for his behavior. At some point, he will start asking to go out.

When you’re not educated on dog training, you might feel overwhelmed with your dog. Thankfully, the advice provided in the above article contains all you need to effectively train your dog so that he or she can be a great addition to your family.
