Dog training tips and tricks for beginners

August 20, 2013 By

Before you get a dog, you should ask yourself if you are responsible enough to have one and train it. Giving your dog proper socialization skills and obedience training, you are developing a good canine, and this will keep your dog happy and safe. These tips will help you get started or give you a better idea of what training a dog is like.

Crate training a puppy must establish the fact the the crate is the new home of the puppy. Feed your dog inside the crate with the door open. This way, your dog will associate positive things with being inside the crate.

Create a calm environment whenever you enter the room the dog is in. Play time is good to have with your pet, however, your dog should remain calm when you enter the room. When you ignore the dog on entry, they shouldn’t bother you about playing.

Do not tie up your dogs too closely. The chain from one dog could wrap around the second and the dogs could get hurt trying to get free. In the case that a large dog and small dog become entangled, the large dog’s rope or chain could cut off air circulation to the small dog, and it could be severely injured or die.

It may take several times for your dog to learn new commands. You might have to repeat the same exercise up to fifty times before your dog remembers it. Continue repeating the same command with patience, and eventually your dog will learn it.

Training sessions with your dog are best when kept short. By keeping the sessions short you will be able to hold your dog’s attention. You can choose to adopt a more intensive regimen, but only if you are willing to allow your dog a few moments of relaxation and play to break up the session.

Training your dog requires you to be firm and authoritative. However, don’t be too demanding or cruel as you want to be a loving master. Doing so improves the relationship between you two.

Use praise to re-enforce good behavior in your dog when training. Smile at your dog and provide it with treats to assist your dog in associated good behavior with positive rewards. Do not reward unwanted behavior. This will cause your dog to think that he is doing something good.

One trick to remember when training your pet is to introduce it to different social environments frequently. They need to become aware of how they should act around other people and dogs. They can’t learn about it otherwise. Doing this will also decrease the likelihood that the dog will respond poorly when introduced to new environments.

When you’re consistent, he can learn to hold it in. When at home, keep your dog close and let him outside each hour. Give him a little praise if he makes waste outside. If your dog has an accident in the home, do not scold him. He won’t know what he did wrong and will learn nothing. Once your dog drinks or eats, take him out 15 minutes after finishing. Also, be sure to take him outside after he has exited his crate.

Hopefully the tips we have given will ensure that you, as well as others, enjoy your dog and his company. You will enjoy the time you spend with your dog more if he is properly trained. Training will ensure that you and your dog have many happy years together.
