Having a trained dog is a great thing for you and your dog’s happiness. Training allows the dog to know what is expected of them. If your dog has been trained effectively, you will be less reluctant to leave him at home alone, allow him to interact with visitors or spend time together in public places like dog parks. It will not always be easy to train your dog. It takes a lot of time and effort to properly train a dog.
Don’t expect your dog to learn a command the first time you say it. You might have to repeat the same exercise up to fifty times before your dog remembers it. Continue trying the same command and be patient, your dog will get it.
When you are trying to house train your puppy, keep in mind that everything that you put in, will come out. You can promote consistency and regularity by feeding your pet on a firm schedule two or three times daily with only the highest quality of food. That way, you’ll know when you need to take your doggie out to “go”.
If you intend to use a crate in dog training, make sure the crate is an appropriate size for your dog. Puppies will get bigger. Choose a crate which will be the right size for the dog when he grows up. The crate should be big enough for the dog to turn and lie down comfortably without feeling cramped.
Be certain your dog knows that you are the leader of your pack. It is important for your dog to know that you are the one who is in control, so that he respects and obeys you. In practice, this means that you should walk ahead when walking your dog, for instance, rather than allowing him or her to take the lead.
To keep your dog compliant with his training, be sure to continue the process well after he has performed the way that you have hoped. It is easy to feel that once your dog’s training is over, the lessons are learned and will stay with the dog forever. However, pets are ruled by habits, structure and routine in much that same way that humans are. For this reason, you need to reinforce what your dog has learned in training or better still, teach him a new trick every now and then.
Your dog needs an hour or more of exercise every day along with any training or bathroom breaks. Taking care to see that the dog exercises enough makes their training work go more smoothly and reinforces the importance of good behavior at all times. Your dog will be happier and more responsive when he gets the exercise he needs.
Train your dog to stop barking with a treat. After your dog starts barking, show your pet the reward and repeat the command until they cease. Only give them the treat when they obey the command. If you continue to repeat this, the dog will figure out that it gets a treat if it is quiet when you say so.
Dog training can help you set rules for your dog, so it understands the relationship. Once those rules are in place and followed consistently, your dog will have an easier time understanding its role and your needs. Keep up with the things your dog has been taught during training. Provide refresher courses when needed and continue to correct bad behavior. Once your dog is trained properly, your dog can do so much more.
