Amazing tips that make training your dog easier

August 2, 2013 By

People choose to bring a pet into their family for many reasons. It may just have been those puppy dog eyes. No matter what, a dog that is obedient is all the more enjoyable. A skillful obedience training program can make all the difference. The following article will give you advice on how to get your dog to become obedient.

When correcting your dog verbally, use sharp, short, concise commands. It’s not good to rant about how bad your dog is. Firmly say no and redirect them. Do not scream, but rather use a loud and firm voice so they understand that you are serious.

Consistency is very important when you are crate training your puppy. When the dog is let out of the crate, it is necessary to give him a chance to relive himself right away. This will teach your dog that he can wait until he gets out of the crate to relieve himself.

The first thing that you must do is to command control over your dog. Make sure he knows that you know what you are doing and are in control of the situation. Then he will look to you and defer to your judgment. Always walk in front, in the leadership position, letting your dog follow behind.

To keep your dog compliant with his training, be sure to continue the process well after he has performed the way that you have hoped. Too many owners tend to be under the impression that once they have trained their dog, that’s the end of it. However, pets and humans share similar habit systems. This shows that you need to do periodic refreshers so that your dog continues to follow the rules.

Have a treat ready to reward your dog after it properly completes a task you ask it to do. You want to make sure that your dog understands that he has accomplished a good thing. This can establish right from wrong quickly and efficiently.

As you train your dog, be certain to gain his attention the same way every time. Begin each command by using his name. This gets his attention, then you can follow through with the command. Dogs are more likely to respond immediately whenever their name is called because they are aware that you want their attention.

The first thing you should do when training a puppy is teach him to understand his name. Call him by name frequently, and teach him to come when called. It is a good idea to have your puppy learn these words first. Spend a lot of time with him or her so that trust can be established. Once your puppy trusts you, it will be easier to train him.

Avoid letting your dog have accidents when potty training. Learn to read your dog and anticipate his needs. Pacing, snuffing and whining are common. If you see any of these signs, get him outdoors! Get his leash so you can take him to the designated potty area. Praise him for appropriate toileting. In time, the dog will ask when he wants to go outside.

Training Sessions

Don’t bog your puppy down with more information than he can process. A puppy only has short bursts of energy and doesn’t have a long attention; you’ve got to keep your training sessions positive and short. If your training sessions stress your puppy, he will grow increasingly less attentive in future sessions.

Are you finally ready to continue training your dog? The tips here really are priceless. Few things are more gratifying than a healthy relationship with your trained pet. That said, this is not a quick process to complete. Once you have a calm, obedient dog, then it all becomes worth it. Use the advice best suited to the situation you are in.

At Pawsitive Solutions, we specialise in helping you get the best possible relationship with your dog.
