Helpful dog training advice that your dog will love

September 24, 2013 By

Much like a television or other electronic device, dogs must be programmed and trained to produce certain results. Working capabilities are there, but like a remote, a person must help it work with their TV. Dogs already have in them the innate intelligence to be trained, but a person needs to follow tips like these in order to bring the skills out.

Make sure that you use a gradual process when training your dog. Start small and build up a bit daily. End the session as soon as your dog’s attention begins to stray.

Establish a calm environment when you enter a room that your dog is in. During playtime allow your dog to be feisty, but teach him to remain calm when someone enters a room. Avoid acknowledging the dog upon your entry, and you can foster the sort of controlled environment necessary to good behavior.

Only reward your dog if they are calm. If you are able to command your dog to do something the right way, then it is good to calmly reward your dog. You might be thrilled with that accomplishment, when you are excited, they becomes excited and that cuts down the control in the situation. If you are able to maintain your calm, you can expect your dog to maintain calm too.

If you intend to use a crate in dog training, make sure the crate is an appropriate size for your dog. You should keep in mind that your dog will get bigger. Choose a crate that can grow with him. Don’t restrict the size so much so that the dog cannot lie or turn easily.

Try not to reinforce bad behaviors from your dog. Avoid giving them any rewards they haven’t earned. For instance, avoid rubbing the dog’s head every time they jump up when you get home.

Take caution when near an unfamiliar dog and offer them a chance to sniff your hands. As you do this, you give the dog an opportunity to acclimate to your scent and become used to your presence. Dogs are more likely to be friendly and obedient if they recognize you.

Remember to exercise patience whenever training your dog. Staying patient will help all parties to avoid frustration. Remember that your pet desires to please you but he gets confused due to him not understanding what you want him to do.

Utilize primary reinforcement when training your furry friend. This utilizes something the dog loves as a means to reward positive behaviors. You can use dog treats or a bunch of love to reward your pet. The best rewards are things your dog already likes and wants.

To ensure that your dog maintains good behavior, you must continue his training throughout his life. Training should not stop because he is not a puppy anymore. By reinforcing the best behavior and providing stern discipline, the negative attidue behavior will cease to appear.

Once a person has figured out how to bring out the dogs abilities to learn and be trained, it is simply a matter of practicing those techniques. As much as the owner will be pleased with what the dog has learned, the dog will also be happy.
