You may not realize how easy it can be to train your dog

September 10, 2013 By

It is very beneficial to train your dog. Not only does the canine benefit, but so does the pet’s owner. The piece that follows explains the positives of training your dog and how you can get the most of every session. Both you and your dog will enjoy this.

Establish a quiet environment when you go into a room your pet is in. It is nice to calmly play with your dogs, but remember to stay relaxed. Try not to acknowledge your pet when you set foot into rooms, and this can imbue calm environments most of the time, since your dog will wait for you to start play time.

Multiple repetitions will be necessary for a dog to learn new commands. It may take about 25-50 repetitions of a particular command before your dog understands it. Try using the command more often and be very patient if you want your dog to learn.

Pay attention to how much time you spend training in one session. Spending too long on training exercises will start to bore the dog. Training sessions should be limited to about 10 minutes of time or less.

If your dog is jumping on you, grab his paws with your hands and gently squeeze them to deter his behavior. It is uncomfortable but a non-painful experience for the dog. They will stop doing this behavior since it will be associated with a negative feeling.

Try to incorporate play into your training sessions with your dog. Taking time to play creates a strong bond between the two of you, and your dog will be more likely to respond well to training. Training can be pretty fun, but make sure you get plenty of non-training play in too.

Wearing a puppy out by overloading it with information and training is counterproductive. Puppies have short attention spans and don’t focus well, so make sure to keep your training sessions short, but as positive as you can. He’ll likely forget everything you taught him if you do too much at once. He will also look at training as a negative experience and it will be harder next time.

You should always try to be aware of any other dogs when you are going for a walk with your dog. Some dogs are more aggressive by nature and it is wrong to assume that it is the result of the owner. If you see a dog that seems to be that way you should always steer clear, especially if you have your pet.

In order to train a puppy to a leash, you must first place a collar around its neck during play. Having the dog comfortable in wearing its collar is crucial and it will be able to give the dog its identification in case it takes it off.

Unwanted Behavior

Praise is just as important as rewards when you are training your dog. Give treats, smile, and get excited so your dog will associate good behavior with a positive result. Never reward unwanted behavior as the dog will also relate the unwanted behavior to something positive as well.

What is your dog’s diet like? Like kids, dogs can become inattentive, hyperactive, and bratty when they have an unhealthy diet. Think about altering the dog’s diet to give him extra energy that lasts the entire day. Ask the vet about additional nutritional requirements the dog may have.

There are many benefits to dog training. By using the tips from this article, you may find that training your dog can actually be fun. Good training is enjoyable and enhances the owner-dog relationship.

At Pawsitive Solutions, we specialise in helping you get the best possible relationship with your dog.
