Tips on how to train your dog properly

September 5, 2013 By

It can be very difficult and confusing to train a new dog. However, to make sure you are happy with your new pet, you must train him properly. It is essential to you and your puppy that you use positive dog training methods. You must be patient and consistent. Take time to train your dog every single day because consistency will really be what works in the end. They will get bored if you take any longer.

Correct your dog verbally with short, sharp statements. Never ramble on about the dog’s failures. Simply tell them no an instead steer them towards what you’d like them to do. Do not scream, but rather use a loud and firm voice so they understand that you are serious.

Timing is everything in dog training, and you need to make sure you don’t overdo it. Begin with small sessions and increase the time daily. Watch to see if the dog’s attention begins to fade during sessions.

Use firm control to elicit desirable behaviors from your pet. Whenever your dog does something right, it’s important that they remain calm. Although you may feel very pleased, control your response to avoid having your training situation become uncontrolled. You should stay calm and then give the reward.

A puppy should have chew toys to get him through the teething pains. Keep other things out of his reach. You should replace the object with a chew toy as soon as this occurs so your dog understands what is okay to chew on. To help your dog cope with painful teething, give him a wet washcloth that has been frozen.

Let any dog you approach sniff your hand first so he can smell you. This gives the dog the opportunity to recognize your scent and start to trust you. When the dog becomes familiar with your smell, he will not fear you and will respond to your commands easier.

Dogs need routine, so feed your dog at the same time every day. This also helps with training. This gives you important forehand knowledge to prevent accidents and your dog an association of cause and effect to follow. Using this schedule can teach your dog how to hold their piddle until the upcoming potty break.

As you train the dog, patience is essential. A patient attitude will make the training process less stressful for the both of you. Your dog will do its best, but give your dog enough time to remember orders. You need to remember that your puppy needs to form the association between the word and the behavior you expect.

If you want to be a good trainer, then you have to be firm and consistent. Yelling at the dog is counterproductive, and it is necessary to balance strictness in response to misbehavior and love in response to obedience. This is a good way to establish a good relationship with your puppy.

Training has to be consistent. When others are involved in the training, everyone should be on the same page and use the same commands. It will make it easier for the dog if it only has a simple set of commands and knows what to expect when it obeys.

Use these tips to make training easier on you and your dog. This will result in a safe pet and property. When you employ training techniques such as those listed here, you will have an easier time training your dog, especially when you practice patience and stay consistent.
