The best way to easily train your dog

August 25, 2013 By

It is very common in households around the world to incorporate dogs and other domestic animals into the family home. During infancy and in the early months of their lives, dogs tend to exhibit a personality filled with mischief, often leading to unintentionally destructive behavior. Review this article to find advice on training your dog.

Dogs generally focus on one thing while ignoring everything around them, unless something interrupts that intense focus. Dogs learn by repetition so with continued training, your dog will immediately focus on what you are saying.

The first thing to do when training a dog is to establish that you are in control. Your dog must see you as a leader, or they will not follow your commands. Your dog should not walk ahead of you, because that indicates a position of leadership.

Keep your dog up to date with dog training, in order to keep him or her compliant with an established set of rules. Often, owners get the feeling that they do not need to continue working with the dog once it is trained. However, pets are creatures of habit. For this reason, it is essential to make sure that your dog adheres to a clear-cut set of rules.

Choose one phrase to use every time you want your dog to do his business. When it’s time for him to go outside to do his business, say “Elimination Device…Activate!” or whatever phrase you chose to call his attention to the task at hand.

When house training your pup, you should adhere to a regular schedule of feeding and elimination. Before the dog goes to the bathroom on your carpet, you will know when it has to go outside. This helps your puppy learn to “hold it” for a bit, until he knows it’s time to go out and will help save you money on carpet cleaning.

Start training with something simple. Smaller, more easily learned behaviors are more likely to produce timely successes and a solid foundation for future training efforts. This will give you positive results from the onset.

“Leave It!” should be one of the first commands that a puppy learns. This command instructs them to release an object and walk away. This command teaches them to cease chewing on furniture or items around the house and it keeps them safe from filthy or hazardous items outside.

You need to be use rewards and positive reinforcers when you are training your pet. Give your dog rewards every time he or she does something good. You should not strike your dog or scream at them. Doing this will cause your dog to act out even more and lose respect for you. Maintain a calm attitude anytime that your dog does wrong so that you can have a relationship o mutual respect with your dog.

Accidents will happen when a puppy is being potty trained. Always clean up accidents right away to help with the training process and keeping the area sanitary. Odor from feces or urine can stay in your carpet which will make your dog return to it when it wants to urinate. There are a wide variety of odor control products designed to address just this situation, so head to the pet shop and ask about them.

Keeping your house clean and owning a dog is possible. A rambunctious and destructive pet can quickly ruin the appearance of your home indoors and from the outside, but an effective training program can solve the problem. Use the advice in this article to make living with your dog more manageable.
