You and your dog training: Successful tips for the future

August 7, 2013 By

Have you thought about getting a dog, but have no idea how to train it? Do you already have a dog that you’re having trouble training? You need to go over this article. Keep reading on how to make sure your dog really becomes man’s best friend.

If you have to give your dog a verbal correction, be sure that they are sharp, to the point, and short. Avoid going on a rant about the dog’s “badness”. Simply tell them no an instead steer them towards what you’d like them to do. Remember that your voice’s volume gets their attention and that you are talking business.

For the best results in training your pet, you must be diligent about giving rewards and encouragement. Reward your dog with some treats right after they obey an order. By giving treats at the proper time, you’ll ensure that your dog understands which behavior it’s being rewarded for.

A puppy should have chew toys to get him through the teething pains. Keep other things out of his reach. Put the chew toy in front of it immediately so it learns that this toy is what it should be chewing. Teething pain can be soothed by a washcloth that has been soaked in water and frozen.

Keep in mind that you’ll have to do a lot of repetition in order to each your dog new commands. It will take up to 50 repetitions to learn a new command. Continue repeating the same command with patience, and eventually your dog will learn it.

To ensure success, you must ensure that the crate you are using is appropriate for the size and breed of your pet. Puppies will get bigger. Choose a crate that can grow with him. Your dog should be able to make itself comfortable in a crate big enough for it to toss and turn.

Before you begin training your dog, you need to establish yourself as the alpha. If the dog does not understand that you have control he will ignore your commands and act with outright disobedience. Demonstrate your position of authority to your dog by leading the way whenever the two of you are walking.

Choose an easily teachable action to train your dog with in the beginning. This will give them instant success and serve as a building block for your training regimen. You will see more results as you are training this way.

Your dog will behave well if you keep reinforcing your training. Puppy’s aren’t the only dogs that can learn. Reinforce the positive behaviors, reward your dog for being obedient and punish your dog for its bad behavior.

Teach your dog not to bark with a simple command. For instance, whenever your dog is barking, hold a treat in front of them and continue to repeat “be quiet” until they quit barking. Then, you can give your pet the treat. If you do this long enough, it will surely be able to associate having treats to it being quiet.

Pay strict attention to your body language and tone of voice anytime you are training a pet. Dogs are in tune with human emotions and pick much of that up from your voice. A firm but stern tone should be enough to reinforce discipline.

Don’t wait any longer, get started on training your dog! Implement these tips right away to teach your dog obedience. Dogs want to be told what to do. All that is needed is your devotion and patience. Give this a try right away!
