Improve your relationship with your dog

August 1, 2013 By

Well done! What happens now? Training your pet will help him to be a much happier dog. These tips will give you all the tools you need to train your pet.

Whenever you have to correct your dog, make sure to speak using short and sharp language. Avoid launching a lengthy tirade against your pet and his naughty behavior. Just say “no” and show them what to do instead. Additionally, you can raise the tone of your voice for emphasis.

Rewarding your dog properly and generously is important when it comes to training them. Reward your dog with some treats right after they obey an order. Dogs can get confused if they are rewarded at inappropriate times.

When training, find a verbal clue your pet can understand so they will know exactly when to do as you say. A positive word will give your dog time to obey.

Whenever your dog improves in his training, allow him some extra freedom. Balancing obedience and liberty make dogs feel very satisfied. Try to remember that you shouldn’t provide a lot freedom at one time, as it could regress the training that you’ve been doing.

When you are approaching an unfamiliar dog, be sure to approach slowly and offer the dog the back of your hand to sniff. Doing so builds up trust with the dog. After the dog becomes familiar with your smell, he’ll start to trust you and listen to you.

You need to teach your dog right away that they should drop or back away from something when you say “leave it.” You can use this command for a number of purposes. For example, it is used to prevent the dog from chewing on something or even to guide them out of harm’s way.

When you are in the initial stages of training your puppy, teach him his name first to help create a bond. Call his name every time you do something or want him to do something. Teach him that he needs to run to you when his name is called. His name should be the first word he learns. Spend a lot of time getting to know your pup, and building a loving relationship with him so he knows who to trust. This will make him easier to train later.

Your dog needs to be trained throughout his entire life to ensure excellent behavior. A dog still learns, even as an adult. If you reinforce desired behaviors, you will ensure your dog’s continued obedience, and by continuing to discipline your dog, you will prevent negative behaviors from appearing.

Continue training your dog using the same techniques over time. If multiple family members are involved in a pet’s training, make sure everyone is using the same commands and a similar system of discipline and rewards. Dogs will learn better and faster if they have a set commands that they need to follow.

Pay Attention

Use your dog’s name when you can, as it will help to get your dog to pay attention. Use it often in the early days of training, so your pup learns that he should pay attention to you when you call his name. It’s best to stick with shorter names, one’s that are distinguishable from other words.

A dog that has been trained well is more happy and disciplined, and its owners are more likely to be happy as well. The tips listed here will lead you to dog training success.
